VW Emissions Scandal Thread V2

Do you mean lowest CO2 when you say 'cleanest', Ryeman?

Particulates and NOx for the 1.5D v 1.2P frinstance......then again I am going cross eyed trying to make sense of it.

Just an example and hope someone with better eyesight can help decipher it.

You would think the 1.2P would be the cleaner overall.

If people were really smart they'd ban big cities. They're the cause of all these problems.

Not sure there's an 'overall' measurement that makes much sense. Some of the measurements don't seem to be applicable to both types.

Struggling even after putting reading glasses on.

Ryeman.  was supposed to be World Wide Harmonisation.   Just not going to be World Wide it seems, must be some distrusting anything from the EU / Europe.

After August 31st in the EU there were to be just new Type Approved WLTP cars on sale but some old test scheme accepted blah blah blah,

and Derogation Rules allowing manufacturers with End of Line tested under the old system to apply to First Register 10% of what they 'Sold' in 2017.

No idea really what the actual story is or the state of play as manufacturers and the motoring press seem not really interested in making it easy to understand.

I don’t think the mayors can complain about the 1.5D.

I understand the 1.2 now has a GPF.

Sounds like a right shambles George.

As I may have said before, Jaguar  are of the opinion that cities that have banned diesels will plead for them to come back as the Co2  levels are rising , but in practice  more likely to be  Euro 6 and later.  Southampton is currently looking into what measures to adopt and sent a questionnaire  with various   options, some which were impracticable in my opinion ( taxis £100 per day and lorries, when Southampton is a HUGE  container port and thus drive that business elsewhere )  BUT ALL cars to be exempt of any charge, including Classic cars.

JLR / TATA boss Ralph Speth will be the one that was saying this week that they might have to take jobs out of the UK,

as is happening already.

The parent company are probable part of the high pollution problem their is in India.

So anything from JLR might need looking at a bit closer or a pinch of salt thrown over Ralph Speth's shoulder.

Passenger cars are not used to deliver and collect containers from the Southampton Container port are they, is it not Diesel Engine HGV's.

Are there plans for Petrol HGV's to be doing the work?

How is Southhampton's Taxi Fleets and Light Commercials for low emission vehicles including electric cars, are there many about?

What about the Local Authority, NHS, Education Department and the likes, are they low emission vehicle user?

Plenty Sun, Sea & Water down on the south coast is there not, just more nuclear needed maybe.

If you want tourism as well as business then there is lots of vehicles, but who wants to breath polluted air.

As far as these city bans as concerned, I think you'll find its not a ban but a money grabbing exercise.

Same approach as cigarettes, terrible stuff, lets put up the tax, but not enough to stop many smoking cos we want the money!

I imagine Tesla’s battery trucks will be used where shipping ports are in major cities.  I noticed what looked like a transfer station on the Hume motorway which could do the long distance haulage interchange.  It simply isn’t absolutely necessary for the ICE to do the haulage in built up areas surely.

Last Mile Deliveries.   Oft spoken about, and now the Couriers and Mail / Delivery service providers are taking it seriously.

Train Hub / terminals as well delivering right into cities.

MINI's & other vehicles go by train to the Ports of departure obviously.

They go by road haulage across the country to Dealerships though.

They’ll start with flying cars first, of course.

'They',  still call it last mile, even if loads of kilometers.

PS,

Canals renovated & reopened Edinburgh Glasgow, the queen just reopened one this year,  more electric or clean canal boats needed, lots sound like a VW Diesel after The Fix.

and now closed again as more money needed on a few locks, bank, bridges etc.

Vorsprung Durch Technik, a Stitch in time saves nine.

Please do  not insult my intelligence by suggesting I think CARS  are used carry containers , and so why do you think any other towns and cities ban diesel cars, Citizen Khan intends to  in an even greater extended area of London,  whereas Southampton intends to ban NO cars, not even very " exhausting " old / classic ones. An overall  decision  which I am sure will be well appreciated by So'ton residents. I must confess I was very surprised to learn that Southampton has a polluted air problem bearing in  mind it on the sea , with tributaries and has HUGE green open spaces, the Sports Centre, the Common and huge golf courses.

As for your other questions I don't know the answers so if you are sufficiently interested no doubt you will contact Southampton C  C.  Thank you.

There are no plans to BAN diesels anywhere on the UK, you will just have to pay a heavy toll to proceed. Same will eventually happen with all other vehicles, fuel tax set to rocket, free electricity will soon be a distant memory. VAT on electricity to rise to 20%. Parking charges extortion and fines for stopping, moving too quickly, idling, breathing, talking.....

You all miss the point about environmental politics, its all about the money, honey...

It is an odd thing that an Arctic truck fully loaded can do 5-6 mpg, and a 7.5 tonne one over 15 mpg and carry all it does and a diesel passenger car or a petrol might not even get 45 mpg.

Southampton might actually have to think again, or councillors might if it is them that have their head in the sand or up their ar53s.

Tony R, i thought you were interested, are you not even looking at what does drive the roads of Southampton?

No cheek there, or no cheekier than calling someone Citizen Khan Citizen Tony R.

So shelved, or maybe not yet.

It's not that odd if you understand Newton's first law.

Absolutely understand what you are saying.

Busses carry more people than cars, and Goods vehicles carry more than cars or estate cars, and all can pollute,

and Electric Busses or Hydrogen Hybrid or Light Goods vans can pollute less than those, but HGV's are not changing much anytime soon.

Electric Taxis can do the job if charging is available, as the grants are there to help businesses and individuals to buy them,

& non Electric should not be sitting idling.

Cars used to get about 30-50 MPG with diesel and leaded petrol a few decades back and still do now and are not getting any lighter.

Big cars full can get 60 mpg (use one as a city / town car and maybe 25 mpg)

and a little car with one driver might be getting 45 MPG on short or long  journeys.   Science is wonderful.

Prestonpans will soon be part of EU according to Nicola while England will not. So no longer any concern of ours...

Prestonpans is lovely or it was, just drive through it now to other beaches & harbours,

and what England is or is not is it's business,

if those at  or near the seaside generally think that their pollution can just go into the air or out to sea they seem to be a sandwich short of a picnic.

royal mail have been working with truck manufacturers to design bespoke EV trucks for them for deliveries.

These are the big vans, but councils are others are doing OK with smaller vans commercially available now, and People Carrier Taxis.

Yeah this one was one of the early prototypes
