Featured Replies

Hi. getting problems changing the fuel filter, having taken the hoses off how do you remover the filter ? does anyone know if there's a special tool I need, as the holder seems to be fixed and doesn't release the filter.. ?

Have you undone the screw? Phillips screw?

Can only advise about the filter thats fitted to my own model... Yours is most likely a different filter in a different location. If it is the same, however, its simplicity its-self. Is your filter located behind the front offside headlight?

That's right its on a 1.6TDi, with 2 hoses one in one out !! removing hoses is easy but it wont budge after.. how did you get it out ?

Push over the 3 metal tabs at the top of the filter pull the filter up and out.

Thanks.. I've tried pulling it up, I've tried moving it sideways. Twisting and turning it.. there is no movement, it seems to be stuck solid. I'll try and be more brutal tomorrow. oh and it doesn't have any screws holding it down !!

Don't be brutal... You might damage the retaining clip. That said, you might just get a new one with new filter. It is just basic tangs that hold it in place. The hoses you CAN clamp but don't really need to, they only drip a little. Use a pair of pliers to squeeze the clip's ears or tangs together, they will then slide down the hose and become loose. gentle wiggle and pull on the hoses will then release them. Take care not to drop the clips off the end of the hoses after removal as you'll still need them and they could go anywhere. The canister should just have a plastic retaining clip that is just a fiddle and clip off item. I'll look at mine again and re- write the method as just going from memory (4 weeks ago, not two years or more). You then just lift it out, slide in and re-clip new one and reconnect the hoses, making sure you connect them the right way around and ensure the clips are nice and tight. Turn the engine over for a few seconds, switch off and check that it is water (Or diesel) Tight.

Thanks very much for your help, I pulled the whole housing out to see what was holding it in lol.. once I realised there was nothing !! it just came out of the housing using a screwdriver to gently lever it out, it was stuck in solid though until I started levering it. thanks again.

May have just got a little stuck with water ingress or something. Not sure if th standard one fits a little tight as my first one was changed by dealer until I spotted how easy it was and how cheap to buy online!

My Fabia 1.6 tdi  105hp CR (caya) reg 63 has 2 pipes on the top of the fuel filter canister. I have looked for a video of someone replacing this type can not find one, they all seeem to have 3 or more pipes.

I was going to clamp each rubber pipe before removing, fill the new canister with diesel, placing in bracket and reattach the rubber pipes.

Turn on and off the ignition 4-5 times before firing her up.

just thinking about my hpfp running dry, air locking

Being a newer type engine is the method changed.

Any thoughts

Thanks
