Just out of curiosity,did the ASV flap move?

Indeed it didn't cost me anything to strip it and I now know how to do the job again. Worthwhile exercise.

Yes the flap did move freely with the normal resistance from the spring. I guess the damage to the motor electrics had already been done, I would assume by the oil that was inside the housing. It's a mystery to me how so much got in there though.

So, new ASV bought and fitted today, took no more than 30 mins as I knew what I was doing.  Engine no longer shudders when switching off, fault codes cleared and hopefully that's the end of it.  Thanks for all the advice chaps. :clap:
