New Golf R - Part 2

Has anyone got a golf R in red or yellow? I'm looking at getting one to replace the fabia vrs but not sure which colour to for for.

I like bright colours and still love the green Fabia but I've never actually seen an R in anything but silver black or blue so I don't know what would look best

There's a red R for sale in the Bridgewater VW dealer. I've not seen it yet but it looks good in their pix.

Our car is in Limestone Grey, not at all bright it does seem to suit the car, especially on a sunny day.

FWIW silver is a mistake, especially on a hatchback, it the rear is always dirty, if it's black the whole car is grubby & Lapiz blue is the signature colour, so it's quite common.

  • Well picked up my new car today... a Leon Cupra Initial verdict.... F**K its quick!! (of course it would be after a Citigo)

  • My R arrived on Friday along with my Dad's GTI!  Didn't even know there was a part two to this thread so have missed 9 pages!

  • I do sometimes think that copying and pasting (without editing) makes it awfully hard for people to instantly see what's trying to be said! Any chance of some pruning the next time please Keith?

David,

Agree with you the Red R in Bridgewater on VW used website looks good, this one in Swindon look pretty good as well.

yes that does look good, i'm thinking of having the standard 18 inch wheels for a bit of extra comfort and to keep the price of replacement tires (and the car) down anyone had experience of any difference it makes?

I currently run Pretoria on my current Golf R but it has DCC. However, I have owned an R Hatch Cádiz 18" and also an R Estate with Cádiz both without DCC and they were fine ,no issues in my experience. I also think the Cádiz look even when dirty and clean up easier than Pretoria's.

They will be great.

Good call ,are you DSG or a Manual.

You will love it when you get it and live with it day to day. Cracking car but then I'm super biased, as others will tell you.

5 door with DSG i drive in London a lot as well as long distance on motorways so DSG makes a lot more sense than a manual

just tweaking my spec on the configurator as i will have the car for 4 or 5 years so i want it right!

Are you PCP buying or part X cash. Have you looked at discounters? Leasing?

leasing there are still some good deals out there for the R, my Fabia is leased and it goes back in November

Thanks Keith, it's quite  nice car for the money. Not local to Swindon either, MX is probably a Manchester area registration.

If we do venture down to Bridgewater, then a stopover in Swindon might be on the cards............

Can I be nosy too, please?

I've not really considered leasing, but it could be a sensible alternative to a cash purchase.

I've had Carwow quotes for a red R 5-door hatchback with £3,425's worth of options (total £37,955 OTR) ranging from £34,414 to £35,421, but I can probably do better if

I go back to the guy who sold us our R estate, he can usually undercut Carwow prices.

David,

I've I experimented with Orangewheels and Inchcape dealership on Golf R and had better results than Carwow.

Inchcape in Swindon have a couple of guys operating both Orangewheels and Carwow.

Car delivered to your door option.

My mk7 arrived earlier this week. No DCC, 18" cadiz.

It replaced a mk2 octavia vrs blackline.

A couple of things I was curious about and can now answer:

I don't miss the leather (yet) and golf's seats are very comfortable.

The standard suspension setup feels firmer but overall more comfortable as it seems to handle bumps better than the vrs did.

Steering is so sharp and flat around corners, sounds great, looks great.  I am very happy...

That's great to hear that you are enjoy the R. Many more enjoyable miles to be had.

Sorry forgot to ask, mk7 or mk7.5 306 bhp.

Took advantage of a decent deal on a Mk7.

Looking forward to the 7.5 in 3 years :)

ordering a Golf R mk7.5  via Orangewheels you can order Performance Pack and R exhaust upgrade.

However not on the VW UK Configurator ,as far as I can see.

Orangewheels example :

What does the performance pack give you?

YetiVRS,

Not seen it official announced by VW UK, however as I've shown above Orangewheels have split it into two package.

Performance : Golf GTI Clubsport S brakes , larger rear spoiler, higher performing tyres, some minor body panel ......etc

R Exhaust : Akapovic Titanium Exhaust( much improved external sound and internal)

Europe not sure if UK will be the same.

Speed restrictor removed similar to Audi RS3 155 > 167 mph.

  • 3 weeks later...

Meet my bro in the stage 1 Rmk7 . This must be my new image man innit !

Noise, performance (assume if mapped for it, my mate had his car mapped at the same time). Cant imagine a huge improvement in the last two.

While I have a couple of MK7 R owners here, few quick questions?

Is adaptive cruise standard?

Is the standard headunit decent enough vs the upgraded ones?

Are the speakers much cop? I couldnt see any 'branded' upgrades when I looked, no Bose/H&K/B&O etc

I assume the fabric seats only come in the stock black/white combo?

Anything else a must have? I'm just browsing at the moment (and part of me still likes the M140i & S3) but I'll probably be looking at a approve used model, £22-£26k range towards the end of summer.

Thanks in advance!

branded upgrades mean very little anyway when it comes to ICE.

Because the car manufacturers wont pay much to Bose/B&O etc for the units.. what they get in return is nothing like what such companies offer aftermarket. It is abit better than the standard stuff, but if you actually look at them you can even see how much of a price they're made to.

Yeah, I get what you mean, some have been better than others that I've heard in the past.

Bose in a 10 year old Audi was midcore at best and the Fiat 'make' is naff, but the Harman Kardon the M3 and M140 had were very impressive and the Bang & Olufsen in his S3 pretty decent too (although I only heard it on the drive home from getting it, bit of adjustment should improve it).

Dont get me wrong, I know they'll not going to rival a full ICE install with a few quid thrown at it but I think in recent years the quality has improved. I'd not be fussed about the system having a 'brand', at the end of the day it'll be made by some kind of audio company anyway, I just want something thats decent enough for daily use and can cope without being cranked up a bit. :D
