So now at last some form of performance package being considered by VW for Golf R but not a Mountune Equivalent

VW initial go a 3rd the way there with the limp wristed Oettinger body panel offered visual package, now this 2/3 rds the way package. When will we get offered the blue tablet version  (Viagra) Oettinger stage 1 added with a full VW Warranty.

  • Well picked up my new car today... a Leon Cupra Initial verdict.... F**K its quick!! (of course it would be after a Citigo)

  • My R arrived on Friday along with my Dad's GTI!  Didn't even know there was a part two to this thread so have missed 9 pages!

  • I do sometimes think that copying and pasting (without editing) makes it awfully hard for people to instantly see what's trying to be said! Any chance of some pruning the next time please Keith?

G Zip VRS,

Keep us up to speed with what you decide and any progress etc.

Best of luck.

Now ordered the outgoing model from G2L (personal, £240, maintained, 9+35, 5000 miles)

Just a little excited.

I did get a quote for the mk7.5 at £290 maintained but the difference pays for the insurance and I probably wont miss the new toys.

New R mk7.5 with Performance Pack at Geneva Show. Walk around review  by an owner of the Facelifted S3 2016/17. 306bhp

The seats look nice, if we do buy one of these I think that we'll have to forego our usual leather choice to keep the car under £40 list.

(Currently considering a used audi A4 as a Superb replacement, have driven 2 x 3.0 V6 diesels, quiet, lazy & maybe 34 mpg & a 252 ps 2.0 TSi, also 34 mpg in my hands, still quiet

but quite nippy too. As usual watch this space............ Also been taken for a ride in a 718 Cayman, but a noisy turbo flat 4 just doesn't sound right!)

Dumb Q? perhaps, but does PCH include insurance & VED?

TIA, DC.

Ved but not insurance

Waiting for the driving review from our friend Thomas.

Think this has some performance package  items on it. Golf R mk 7.5

Inside Lane review:

So will Evo do a "Deadly Rivals " repeat video to see if the RS3 Facelift will  overturn the Bedford Aero battle. Hopefully Dan Prosser will repeat the exercise.

Looking forward to that.

The Golf R competes with the S3, both on price & performance, the RS3 has no direct VW rival.

VFM, driving ability, sharpness and handling ability. Think that was the purpose of the Evo "Deadly Rivals" run out at the time , with of course £10k hike in price for the RS3,probably even more now in Facelifted variety!! imo but then I'm biased as you know David.

Ironically Your Golf R Estate has no real rival from Audi S3 or RS3, only Seat within VAG.  .

Thomas's reply to my question:

Thomas, When do you get your hands on the New Honda  Civic type R, that would be a good 3 way comparison with your recent reviews on Focus RS ,this Golf R MK7.5 and the latest Honda Type R . Look forward to that. How do you compare the R Facelift with Audi RS3 Facelift, if you have driven both?

Well I found the Golf R more comfortable for taller people and also suspension wise. 5 cyl-engine is cool yes with the RS3, but I'd take the Golf for better price/performance and more comfort

So who needs a R mk 7.5, when a 3year old R mk7  looks as good as this and also goes as well as this stage 2 .

One does not need a new Mk 7.5 at all, but the "want" might outweigh the "need"...........

(Especially the 7-speed DSG...0

vloger compiled a video comparison of Audi S3 Facelift with Golf R MK7.5 Facelift.

  • 2 weeks later...

Has anyone got a golf R in red or yellow? I'm looking at getting one to replace the fabia vrs but not sure which colour to for for.

I like bright colours and still love the green Fabia but I've never actually seen an R in anything but silver black or blue so I don't know what would look best
