I just like the fact that after all their bleating last year about the rubbish Renault engine, they now have to eat a nice slice of humble pie. Even if the engine isn't quite the best on the grid, it

It was an appalling piece of driving. What concerns me is the relatively light punishment he received. It's one thing to do that on a slow corner, but if they're still close together towards the end of the year, he might try it somewhere faster, like 130R.

How agonising it must be for Rosberg to have that much talent, but to have a team-mate with 0.1% more.

Apart from sucessfully chopping Hamilton in turn 1 at Melbourne, every time since, when #44 has come up to pass, Nico's desperate defence has seem him make disastrous errors of judgement, in Spain Canada and Austria. Each time, giving a bit of space would have benefited his long game, more points in Canada and Austria, and the whole of the race in Spain to take Hamilton on.

I think he seems mentally unable to deal with Lewis, and much as Daimler want a German champion in their car, this driver patnership is not going to help that happen. When Red Bull or Ferrari catch up, all these dropped points are going to cost Mercedes big time.

Surely they are going to have to let a driver go.

Will they keep the global superstar and proven champ, or will they keep the guy with the right passport. Both are good enough to win titles for the team, just not so easily when teamed together.

I think Rosberg's problem is that he was something like 43 points ahead of Hamilton a few races ago and now that gap has dwindled. Hamilton has had a poor season by his standards due to reliability issues, bad starts and errors, but he's still there right behind Rosberg. Rosberg's OK when he's out front controlling the race without anyone too close, but when it comes to racing for position he comes unstuck.

Still, with the engines remaining to each, it would actually make sense for Mercedes to impose team orders in favour of Rosberg right now.

Hamilton is certainly going to take a few grid penalties for engine changes before the end of this season.

It wasn't always like that:

" Moss's sporting attitude cost him the 1958 Formula 1 World Championship. When rival Mike Hawthorn was threatened with a penalty after the Portuguese Grand Prix, Moss defended him. Hawthorn was accused of reversing on the track after spinning and stalling his car on an uphill section. Moss had shouted advice to Hawthorn to steer downhill, against traffic, to bump-start the car. Moss's quick thinking, and his defence of Hawthorn before the stewards, preserved Hawthorn's 6 points for finishing second behind Moss. Hawthorn went on to beat Moss for the championship title by one point, even though he had won only one race that year to Moss's four."

Arise, Sir Stirling

As for Wehrlein, #314, 316, 323 - Hamilton must feel surrounded by Chormans as it is!

Sporting values I approve of...

Back when it was a sport, not a business.

But Nico's post crash interviews either show he's in denial or, as the highly F1-experienced panel on NBC thought, a bare-faced liar.

Wehrlein is MB's chosen one, and proving himself at Manor (paid for by MB).

He could be becoming another factor influencing Nico's contract talks I reckon.

£180 for a ticket to for Sunday at Silverstone.  Cheaper to go to a European GP.

£60 for Saturday.

The last time I went to the British GP at Silverstone I think we paid £25 for Saturday and Sunday. OK, that was 1988.

Letting off stream and venting his anger at his own mistake off of the track is better than doing it on the track, childish as it may be.

Yeah it could be worse, he could be in the habit of over-defending when it's unreasonable and taking out his team mate, oh hang on that's the other guy isn't it.

A few mates went to austria this year, all hired a camper van and had a right laugh by the looks of things, wish I could have gotten the time off work :(

'Lying' about their relationship is a bit of a weird statement anyway as they (drivers especially) have a duty to be diplomatic and tactful when talking to the media. Revealing the true nature of tensions behind the scenes is never a good idea (in terms of sponsors, rival teams, increasing tension between garages etc), and surely Lauda knows that better than most.

The last time I went to the British GP at Silverstone I went for free ....I was working at Stowe school and there is a nice little (if quite long...) track that leads right up to Stowe corner where you can see the race from the tree line to the left of the relatively new grandstand seating. For a couple of years a few of us staff used to go and watch over the weekend with some sarnies and beers. Ssssh.

Solid drive from Hamilton today, except one little excursion off of the track. Excellent drive from Verstappen. Verstappen passed Rosberg without any coming together and Rosberg later passed Verstappen without hitting him.

On the point of the Mercedes team telling Rosberg over the radio what to set on the car to solve the gearbox problem, two races ago Hamilton struggled for 10 laps trying to find a setting to solve a problem with the car, because the team were not allowed to tell him over the radio.

Solid drive translated to excellent drive, not sure there's many can beat him at Silverstone in damp or wet conditions. Saw Rosberg taking a defensive line again against Verstappen when there was no real need . No harm done and it wasn't dangerous by any means, just makes one question his race-craft in general. The radio call for the settings is a breach if you ask me, one rule for one and all that. They will argue it was a safety issue but you could say that about any fault that occurs that the driver can't drive round themselves.

Clearly a day to celebrate 2 of Britain's most accomplished sportsmen...Like them or not

Great result for Max V.  Best pass of the race.  Great talent and entertainment.

Red Bull closing on Ferrari.

the radio call is clearly in breach of the rules and I can't see how Mercedes can argue that there was a safety issue. Rosberg called in to say there was a problem with the gearbox, but he was still able to drive. If he could drive the car then he could have parked up in a safe place off track if there was any safety concerns.

Stewards agree. 10 second penalty for Rosberg, demoting him to 3rd

Max only 8 behind Vettel now.

Amazing thinking he has only been in a frontline car for part of this season.

Also Red Bull only 6 points behind on the constructors.

I noticed Lewis praised Italy's passionate fans.  Keeping his options open for a Ferrari move at some time.

Red Bull closing on Ferrari.

Fully agree. Max and Lewis superb today. Red bull arguably ahead of Ferrari. Likely to be more of the same at Hungary.
