Reflective vest?

Featured Replies

Just a quick question - I've got a UK L&K 150tdi (October 2015 build) and I have the tab under driver's seat for the reflective vest, but no reflective vest. Should I have?

It's not something that particularly bothers me but since I generally seem to have a "Friday afternoon" car which arrived without torch in boot, had to have oil service light reset at 300 miles, has nasty rattle from somewhere in the back (perhaps glass roof) I figure I may as well check just so I can pester the garage again if it's yet another thing wrong! :D

AFAIK they aren't suppied with the vehicle in the UK. Probably different in those countries where it is a legal requirement to carry one together with triangle, bulbs etc.etc. Mine certainly didn't come with one.

Cheers for that! :) I can tick that box off now.

I kind of expected that since we don't get the warning triangles or anything, Skoda UK aren't really known for their generosity or supplying useful things, or indeed what customers want in general... :D

Some of the things you do and don't get really do amuse and astound me about the Yeti.

My L&K didn't come with a vest. It did however come with a heated windscreen. Heated washer jets were an extra.

How can a top of the range vehicle with a standard heated screen cost  anything extra for heated washers?

I know it's not much but it would cost Skoda even less than they charge us so why not fit the bloody things as standard?

You can say the same for paint. The cost of the quantity of paint (I doubt there's a litre in total) must be a few ££££'s yet they want ni on £600 for most colours.

I obtained a yellow vest and it sits in one of the side pockets in the boot.

If you ever take the car to France,  keep the vest under the drivers seat...regulations require it to be accessible to the driver without leaving the vehicle...hence the under-seat storage position.

I got 2 vests from the local pound shop for 75p each.

How much? Did you really say 75p?

I keep getting given them; one of the "joys" of doing radio on car rallies.

Not much of a pound shop it were £0.75p ;)

It was Pound stretcher I went to.

Cheap quality I must admit but they are reflective. 75pence they must have been in a sale :D

buy one for each person that could be in the car...it could save your  own and your passengers lives if you're unfortunate enough to break down. I did a driver first assist course last year and they said you shouldn't even stop to help if you didn't have one. I know it could be a bit of corporate ar8e covering but it makes sense...

CBRN courses tell you if you aren't equipped to deal with a problem you stay away or you become part of that problem.

Bit more extreme than no reflective vest to be sure but along the same lines.

Not a legal requirement in this country (unless working on the highway) but if travelling abroad, not just any £ shop high viz jacket will do - it needs to have a CE Mark. Not certain, but I think it must also have sleeves (certainly must for road workers in the UK on main roads).

No,sleeved not reqd in France!

Tony beat me to it.

Sleeveless are perfectly satisfactory

And I don't think the Law says it has to be yellow background. I carry my orange railway one all the time.

Given the number of people wearing them, I thought you had to have one on every time you leave the house these days!

To be fair, living in a rural county and winter driving on darkly lit country lanes with no pavements I do appreciate the 'fashion' for these jackets by dog walkers et al, probably supported by their availability from £ shops.

I wish cyclists in Cambridge had to wear high viz reflective jackets,  since hardly any of them bother using lights at night,  except for the ones who use dazzlingly bright flashing LED's that blind you!   But come within a metre of touching one of these invisible maniacs and you're branded as the devil's spawn.  (Rant over)

£1 from Poundland!

I have a luxury fleece lined vest courtesy of my last company,

already used in anger and cold wet weather. Kept under the

seat as is the Lionesses.

I ditched the pointless vestholder & replaced it with something entirely more useful...

Must open mine one day and then put something in it! :D

I don't understand why Skoda doesn't supply one in every car.

I was getting quotes for orange high viz waistcoats to UK class 3 standard for my motorclub last year and one supplier who imports them from China (of course) quoted them at 74p each if buying 10+. Scrolling down the quote, 5000 worked at 18p each, including printing with the club logo on the back!
