Those are face lift clocks mate

Debating with the idea of fitting a maxi dot to my pre fl vrs

Is this the right one?

If not does anybody have a part number ?

Probably more to it than you realise tbh. Different manufacturers etc etc

Best to ask somebody in the know :)

Nope, they are definitely pre-FL clocks if anything. I'm sure that 1Z0920941D is a pre-FL maxidot so the E rev is quite likely to be too.

Look to have taken quite a hit though...

Yes they're pre-fl clocks.

All that's required is to physically swap them over and then code the immobiliser and swap the mileage.

Is it easy to code them as somebody local has Vcds

No you can't do it with vcds. I believe you need VAG tacho to reprogramme the immobiliser.

It doesnt say in the advert they are maxidot, how do you know?

Because you can see the screen in the middle?

They are maxidot and pre-fl. On the pre-fl standard cluster you would have a very distinct LCD display in the centre so its easy to tell the difference between standard and maxidot. For facelift its less clear cut as without power they both look the same.

Here's a picture showing the difference on a pre-facelift.

Eddie-NL on here coded mine in for me but unfortunately he's located in Great Yarmouth.

He says he can also fit Facelift maxidot into a pre-FL car now too! You need some kind of wiring adapter and I'm sure he said something else too but it's possible.

But the one's you've linked to are 100% pre-FL maxidot.

Is your car a diesel?

Phil

You need VAG Commander, not VAG Tacho (I think that's used for the mk4 platform)

Do you have the SKC for your immobiliser? Sometimes it came on a plastic tag with the car.

Here's a guide on fitting :)

Eddie was able to programme mine without the SKC code so that's not vital.

And yes VAG tacho was for Fabia/Polo/Ibiza platform which uses an older immobiliser version.

Phil

If you install the maxidot display, does it automatically enable the 'which door is open feature'... Also what other features does it pull through.

Wasn't that fussed, but with a wife that never shuts the boot properly and a tiny tot that can now reach the door handles, it maybe a prudent investment.

Yes it does.

You can change some settings on the car depending on your model and equipment.

Like the auto locking, locking beeps, lights, rain closing etc. But on an Ambiente your options will be limited or not there due the controller fitted.

It also just displays a bit more info at a time and looks nicer.

If you fit a Bluetooth kit too it shows on there and you can answer and end the call with the wiper stalk buttons (the compass at the top left only shows if you have sat-nav fitted by the way. And obviously the PRNDS only shows with an auto box).

This will be my next Mod  - looking forward to a trip in to Norfolk some time soon...

I was looking into this aswell but Im debating if it is worth the expense of upgrading!

If you can get a second hand panel for £50, then yes definitely!

I got my maxidot off ebay for £50 then I think Eddi charged £60 but don't quote me on that.

Well worth while upgrade in my opinion.

Especially like I say with a Bluetooth kit fitted and also sat-nav:

Plus with my Polar FIS+ fitted I get some extra info there too:

But even without that it's still worth it. I hated the look of the normal dash and think it really makes the car seem cheap.

Phil

My mistake they are preface just look different to the vrs clocks :)

Yeah the vRS has different dials to the normal version. Like this:

IMG_9719.JPG

That's my issue i use my phone for satnav as I have a stream hu and have a parrot bluetooth.

The cheapest ive seen a set of VRS clocks is £115

Was thinking im better off spending the money on a DS820 hu

You can use non-vRS clocks in the vRS just down to preference if you don't mind the dials looking different. The vRS clocks are harder to get hold of unfortunately.
