  • Out of that list the 330d XDrive is the one I would go for, I don't have any experience of the Xdrive system but if they are still using the straight six diesel layout, I love the engine in my current

  • I'd recommend a 3 series estate. A good chassis and a punchy 4 pot diesel should keep you entertained enough. For 25k you'd be able to get a next to new one. Or if you want the extra 2 cylinders, a ca

Shame your little one isn't bigger you could ask him to bring the jaaag round

Rot can't be too young for a Jaaag. I've wanted an XJ since I was 14 and the Wing Commander gave a bunch of us cadets a lift in his.

Spoke to the Jaaag salesman and I'm going to take a look at a car this weekend, probably Sunday morning when it's a bit quieter.

Unfortunately the £1500 off is only when you take out £10k on finance, and I'm planning on a cash sale which I know they don't like coz there is no sweet kickback for them.

buy it on finance and clear it after the first payment :-)

Got to be after 6 months which unfortunately doesn't work for me right now, plus my tradeins take me below the minimum anyway.

Looking to get a mortgage shortly and it's important I don't have any additional outgoings.

I shall add that to my shopping list should I get one. And some string backed driving gloves.

I dunno it's an auto; couple of blocks on his feet like Short-Round and I'll soon get him trained up.

Had a look at a few cars today.

Looked at a 3.0d 61 plate Jag XF, and a 2.0d 12 plate A4 Allroad. Both very similar prices. A4 had a flat so wasn't drivable, also the wee man was loosing interest rapidly.

Jag was very low miles 1 owner, not my first choice of colour inside or out (interior was a bit yellow, barley leather they said), but drove very nicely (Same auto as the BMW but not as good as the bimmer). 2yr warranty as standard.

Allroad was clean and looked much more practical (plus the quattro), but inside was pretty dull in comparison to the Jag also 1yr warranty plus cambelt service in 12 months. Audi was about £500 cheaper than the jag up front but that's probably over ruled by the big 2017 service and extending the warranty.

Going to try the Audi next week if it's still there, no time before. I can see the Audi being much more practical and handy in the bad weather, the Jag well it's a jaag and it makes a V6 noise.

Wee man voted for the jaag although he was quite taken by the yellow R8 in the Audi dealership.

Snakelet demonstrating discerning taste there.  Forum member in the making

Aspman,

have you given any thought to a used Audi S4?

( If you can find a good one at the right price!)

Audi S5 sportback? 3.0 TFSI or the older 4.2 V8. Might be an option for me as a next car.

I'll still be doing 10-15k a year so although I could afford to run something like that I don't think I'd want to for an every day car.

For commuting day to day you want something that works.

I think in a couple of years when I've cleared off the mortgage then something silly will be a possibility for a weekend / occasional car.

I was looking at the rather nice XFR at the showroom they'd just sold for 37k. 5.0 V8 503hp. Or maybe just look for cheaper stuff and change it often.

E39 M5, went to a meet yesterday, I want one now

Although the V8 sounds awesome the V6 TFSI is the better drive and doesn't sound too shabby either.

Yes the V6 is the one to go for, apparently it's quicker than an RS5 remapped.

Have just agreed to buy a Mazda 3 hatch 2.2d SE-L.

Got offered at least £1k more than anyone else has for my two trade ins (over £18k minus settlement) cost to change just over £3k.

Car is white (not my fav) and tbh the saloon is better looking if less practical. It's not going to make your knees tremble but it seems a decent motor.

Wasn't expecting that :)

Nice bit of kit though, and that engine goes well

I might well tire of it after 2yr but it'll do a turn.

Sensible head ruled in the end. Interior quality on the Mazda was pretty good for a car in that range. I've seen a lot worse on more expensive motors.

Heads up display on the sport was a novelty but I wouldn't pay for it. Heated seats are real arse roasters too.

Yep, they do a decent interior

And you can always change it again! :)

I think winner for the best description for heated seats...I feel dealers should put this in the description of the car!

Car now in the drive, pics to follow.

First impressions are that it's a thoroughly decent motor even if it won't set the world alight.

ICE seems a bit of a faff right now but I've yet to read the manual to get it tweaked for me. Sat nav was muted as well.

Interior seems significantly better quality that the 14 Nissan I traded in.

It's nippy, plenty of pull. It has sequential twin turbos so power is pretty smooth through the revs.

Little noisy even though it's on relatively narrow rubber (205, lol remember when 205 was massive?), might be the Toyos that are fitted. I'll put on something quiet when they're done.

they'll be worn for winter so Michelin X-Climates might do the trick.

Seats not as good as the Accord but they were armchair-like.

Has a speed alarm, found out how to switch that off sharpish :D

Will need to buy a spare wheel kit, but at least it has a wheel well.

Rear visibility not great, prob a weak point on the car.

Has xenons but won't be out in the dark for a while.
