Windscreen Washer Bottle Liquids

Featured Replies

I have tried all sorts of screen wash liquids (after thoroughly cleaning the windscreen) and the

only one I remember that worked was the one that VW put in my Golf washer bottle at a service.

Any recommendations? I expect the rufty tufty offroaders will have it pegged (or just use plain water)

Lidl, Aldi or VW's

I always use the VW/Skoda one in the Octy and it works really well.

I buy it in lots of 10x1ltr bottles for £35 which considering it's concentrate I don't think is particularly bad value as I get it from the same seller on ebay everytime which is some Dealer group down in England

I believe in cleaning my "glass" very frequently by hand after which I doubt that it makes much difference what screen wash liquid one uses - as suggested above, Lidl & Aldi seem like perfectly reasonable sources.

Prestone stuff from Costco.

Personally use the VAG stuff (and filtered water)

Whatever you use make sure it is suitable for fan jet washers and ideally use filtered water (unless you live in a soft water area) otherwise the jets can block up easily.

I use the stuff from Lidl. 5 litres for ~ £5 and it can be diluted down quite a bit and good for much lower temps than we ever see in the UK.

Also TuV tested and suitable for fan jets.

Lidls stuff was awesome, but I haven't been able to get any for well over a year. I now use the stuff in the tyre machine at tesco - it's really not bad at all. £1 to top up the bottle, and a minutes worth of filling the empty bottle I take with me, and do the tyre pressures.

Other little trick I do - I do lots of miles, when I get in at night I give the windscreen a blast of household glass spray (I'm going to sound like an advert now, but the Tesco own brand stuff is great - I use it at work when I'm vinyling shop windows). Leave it on a few minutes while I get the car emptied and loaded for the next day, then rinse it off with the washers. It really helps them stay clean and I use a lot less screenwash.

Whatever's the cheapest.

The couple of wash liquids previously left limescale marks on the screen

after use I am using the Prestone at the moment as it does seem to do a

good job. I was not aware that the Skoda fan washers required a suitable

screenwash I thought that they were just set too low.

I stocked up on the lidl concentrate stuff un january - 5x5l good to -60 used neat. Currently using at 1:2 dilution as this give -10 anti freeze, will halving at least come end of march. It stinks a bit chemically, but does a really good job. Water in its iwn is pointless most of the time.

Prestone screen wash too. Pick some up every time Costco have it on offer which why I have so much stockpiled in the garage.

Been using VW/Skoda screen wash for about 12 years and never had any problems and always does a good job cleaning the windscreen.

Same here, I use this and still have 6 bottles left from when I bought 8 last winter, and I sold one of them. Stuff will last me a life-time.*

True that, I always replenish the screen washer and fill up a couple of two litre bottles with tap water when I am up in the Lake District :)

Whats -10 ?

Apparently, apart from a tiny corner of Dumfries & Galloway the whole of Scotland is soft water. I've owned nothing but VAG cars since for the last twelve years (two VWs and two Skodas) and have only ever used the VAG screen wash - I could go between annual services without topping up - screen wash was topped up at the last service at the start of October and I decided to top up again earlier this month - could hardly believe how little had been used (it only took a dribble from the bottle to bring it back to the top) - the scoosh from the jets is obviously quite deceptive.

Whatever's the cheapest.

Dam I missed a bargain today, Unipart screen wash 5ltr £2.49. Asda's own 2 x 2.5ltr £3.00.

The Unipart stuff was at the garden centre.

Whats -10 ?

It's a Northern thing, you wouldn't want it.
