Noise after switching off.

Featured Replies

Still getting used to my recently acquired 2014 Octavia.  To be honest, I've driven it very little as I've been away and using our other car, my wife's been driving the Skoda.

However, this morning after a brief 15 minute run, I switched off, got out, locked it, and experienced something my wife commented on as having happened once with her.  There was a continuing noise, quieter than if the engine was still running, would it be a fan or the turbo still spinning?

When it happened with my wife, she took it round the block and on returning home and switching off, there was silence.  In my case this morning, I got back in and switched it on again, blipped the accelerator a couple of times and switched off.  I got out and there was silence.

So is this normal, or is there a problem?  It doesn't happen every time the car is stopped and switched off.  And nothing like this ever happened with it's predecessor, a same model and spec 57 reg.

Appreciate any comment/help.

Thanks for your prompt reply Matt, I saw that thread but only the "burning smell" bit, so ignored it.  But like some of the contributors to it, we've had no burning smell either, but it does sound as if that's the issue, so my mind's at rest.  Thanks again.

It can also be some type of cooling of the turbo or something.

I have the same sound, and its a petrol, so no dpf.

I think theres a thread somewhere. Its some sort of pump connected to the turbo that circulates coolant rather than the engine turning off and the oil stops circulating. Preventative measure to early turbo failure at a guess.

Indeed, my VRS petrol makes a whining noise after being switched off and I've been told this is coolant being pumped around the turbo
