Towbar for Octavia Scout, 2015

Featured Replies

I am considering fitting a towbar to my new Octaia Scout. There seems to be lots of contradictory info out there with regards to type of towbar and the need to cut out the rear bumper extension. I don't necessary want a cut out.. Is there anyway around it? Also wondering if there is now a type specific towbar for the new Scout as apposed to using the towbar that was used on the order model.

You need to cut the bumper whichever tow bar you fit, even the fully detachable swan necks.

It wasn't until I took delivery of our MkIII Scout that I was able to appreciate how far underneath the car the bumper goes. Much further than on the MkII.

There are some photo's of a bumper cut-out here...

With my own thread here...

Any bar will fit, there is plenty of choice from a fixed flange to a fixed swan neck to a fully detachable.

If the car is on a lease be aware that if you take the tow bar off you will have to repair the bumper, or leave it fitted and write off the cost of fitting over the lease period.

I know I am a bit late coming in on this subject, but could you be a star and measure your tow ball height, mine is 20" 510mm and think it is miles too high for pulling anything, good job I only use it for a bike rack at the moment!! Thanks in advance.

Hi Roger,

I haven't yet fitted a towbar to my Scout, all my research above was in preparation for having one fitted, I'm yet to take the plunge.

The towbar height on the MkII Scout was a little high (mainly down to the increased ride height of the Scout) but as the Octavia has generally soft rear suspension once some weight is on the tow ball is soon levels out.

Dunno about the Scout, but the cut in non-Scouts is on the horizontal underside of the bumper and not visible unless you lie on the ground.

And the 15,000 miles I did in my SE showed no road dirt accumulating to speak of. Under the bonnet got dirtier.
