DSG self revving

stuarttunstall,

i take it the 500,000 figure comes from 6 speeds or something.

*In New Zealend the DQ200 had a new MCU fitted under the Service Campaign.*

The EU / UK DQ200 Twin Dry Clutch 7 Speed that did not need a REcall, got a Service Campaign,

many still never done, even Skoda Approved Used Cars, and VW, Seat & Audi Approved Used cars.

http://autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/vw-uk-why-we-dont-need-dsg-recall

The VW World Wide recall was on 2.6 Million vehicles with DQ200 7 Speed Twin Dry Clutch DSG.

then more were recalled.

The EU never even got a Recall just Service Campaign.

Then there were the Recalls and Service campaigns on the Twin wet Clutch boxes manufactured in China and other VW Plants.

  • Last UPDATE:   Been calling at DSG service centers around the country starting from Southampton up to Glasgow and got same answers. Maybe the mechatronic, maybe just the clutch... anyway all in all

  • ? What do you mean the 'Mechatronic' / MCU (control unit) can not be fixed. http://evosoft.dk/tech.html   It can be replaced.   Where are you getting your information, all online?

  • I am not saying that it cannot be replaced but in Jersey there is a bit more difficult as we have just 1 Skoda dealer and only they know how to deal with DSG gearboxes and everything else. I will go

Thank for the VIN....

Looking at ETOS the last price on there was around £1700.00 BUT it also states that the part has been "Dropped" which usually means the part has been superseded  to a different part number, so this will be an approx price..ETOS does not update as often as dealer ETKA system...

I use vehicle registration data for work, and using the latest I have at home, which was early 2015 there were around 500,000 VAG Group vehicles fitted with DSG gear boxes, this does not include other manufactures that now offer the same technology.. including Ford, Mitsubishi, Smart, Hyundai and Porsche, Bugatti.

Bear in mind this was up until early 2015 so there will be a lot more now.... (can confirm Monday at work) so on the whole they are reliable and seems most issues/recalls are to do with the incorrect oil in the gearbox... I suppose lack of oil changes may also be a factor if owners fail to get them serviced...

Remember forums only get to hear of the problem cars, not the 1000's that never have issues... I love my DSG, but I did take out the 5 year warranty when I purchased the car almost 2 years ago for "peace of mind"

I agree with what you say, there are loads of DSG's that work very well and have no issues. For me this is my first experience with and automatic gearbox. Before this I had a Skoda Octavia 2.0 Petrol 2005. I did around 50k miles with this car and believe me it was great driving. The reason I changed to the Superb was: comfort for the passengers in the back and to get my wife to drive as she hates manual gearboxes. I bought this car last August and it drove very nice around the island but when I took it to France on the motorway after 1000 miles it started to play up. This is the short story with my Superb.

The 500000 is for ALL DSG derivatives registered in the UK, inc 6/7 speed, although it seems the 7 speed was more of an issue ... I may be able to work out the numbers of 6 & 7 speed on Monday...

I am expecting to be quite expensive, even the new replacement part.

Thanks you for looking!

When I ordered my Superb new in 2014 I wanted a 2.0TDi 170BHP with 4x4 which at the time only came with the 6 speed DSG, and reading all the stuff on the internet I was terrified lol

I always use my dealer for servicing, they look after me on price,  comparable to a independent for servicing, plus even got me a new engine in my Seat Ibiza with full service history, which I use every day under warranty at 65000 miles and 4 months out of warranty and it cost me £300.00 for them finding the issue...

So I asked the question... they told me they have only had a couple of issues with DSG in the Skoda range, and all involved the mechatronic unit, but based on the number they sold they have very few issues... BUT as I said for my own peace of mind and as I keep cars around 4 years I paid for the extra warranty...

The Superb is a "Superb" car, and like you say for room they are amazing... just a shame you are having bad issues... Who knows if they do test may be something silly... We hope ;)

No problem, hope you get it sorted.... :)

Is you car counted as a UK Registration vehicle and came with a 3 Year Manufacturers Warranty.

Or was it a 2 Year Manufacturers warranty.

Maybe do not be so fast to pay money to the Main Dealer or even have the car repaired on Jersey.

Is it Skoda UK Customer Services Milton Keynes that you would have to deal with?

stuartturnstall,

sorry, post #24 you never said 'in the UK' or the likes, just some 500,000 number.

Obviously the majority of DSG / S-tronic from the Volkswagen Group are perfect,

the numbers faulty are small, but it is not just a Oil Issue, there were faulty Clutch Packs, and MCU's and that was a Quality Control of Manufacturing issue.

So owners can just think, one of those things, cover themselves with extended warranties, or question what the failure and fault rate is.

Or just pay out their own pocket, there is no such thing as Free Motoring.

I hope as well... fingers crossed.

On March 15, 2013, China Central Television aired a program for the World Consumer Rights Day. The program criticized the issue associated with DSG-equipped vehicles manufactured by Volkswagen. On March 17, 2013 Volkswagen Group China announced on its official Weibo that it will voluntarily recall vehicles equipped with DSG boxes.[37] Some sources have estimated the failure rate of DSG-equipped vehicles sold in China to be greater than 20,000 per million sold.[citation needed]

UPDATE to this issue:

The car was in service and was tested and re-tested by the technicians. After they have updated all the software they concluded that the fault is from the DSG gearbox and nothing can be done but replacing it which is a total of £4200.

I took the car and now I have to decide what is the best solution.

A new DSG is way to expensive and dose not worth the money in my opinion. This car value in full working condition is probably around £9.000 and to invest almost half of the value in the DSG is pointless.

Another option is to find a good DSG second hand for my car.

So I am looking for a seccond hand DSG with part number 02E 300 054 JX 00N

Do you have any suggestions or does anyone know a second hand DSG for sale for my skoda?

Thank you!

A quick search on Google gives this place  http://www.gearboxnottingham.co.uk/dsg-mechatronic-units.php but there must be a gearbox specialist in France that would do it for you at no where near the price the dealer has told you.

The dealer is very rarely the best option  as said to you before on this thread

It is quite annoying that most of them are "fitters" and not "specailists"

Get searching in France or come over to the UK for a couple of days holiday and still get it fixed much cheaper..

Good luck :nerd:

Is there no independent garages on the Island??

Hi there !.

I hope you will get you DSG sorted out soon with reasonable price :) .

Regarding the RPM revving, is the movement of RPM needle considered unusual, when on cruise control under full load (4 people + things) and the needle moves just a tiny bit ?

How tiny ? well if the needle is right on the top of markings, you can see it "shivers". Response of the gas feels normal ... it is just strange thing I have noticed.

alexjsy,

Do you know if the Technician doing Software Up dates did the Main ECU,  and the DSG ECU with the cars battery disconnected and an external power source when doing the DSG Update.

?

What is Skoda UK or Skoda CZ saying about the premature failure of your DSG since they know the fundamental Design, Manufacturing, Quality Control & Component choice issues, and these being an issue for Skoda / VW that they need to address.

Skoda UK has a new Brand Director and Warranty Issues in or out of Manufacturers Warranty seem to be getting taken more seriously,

Senior Customer Services Managers being put on cases that can cause more bad publicity from the failings in Skoda Customer Services .

Maybe because so many owners had such poor treatment when they had cars with issues when Skoda UK was under the management of Alasdair Stewart Skoda UK Brand Director.

Hello,

I am sure there are specialist technicians both in France or UK. I have already spoken with a couple of garages which fix DSG and the opinions are quite the same, clutch + mechatronics. All together costs of £2500.00 + travel expenses.

Thanks

Solutions I receive up till now is clutch + mechatronics + oil. Looking at £2500.00 plus travel expenses.

The needle moves about 150rpm at 70mph and 50rpm at 35mph

They are aware of the issues with the DSG-s but no one will refund in full or part of it.

It's shame because the car is lovely but the DSG is a huge trouble...

They refund in full or part with other people, even replacing gearboxes that are only suspected of having issues in Australia.

It must be how you ask, and who you ask.

Last UPDATE:

Been calling at DSG service centers around the country starting from Southampton up to Glasgow and got same answers. Maybe the mechatronic, maybe just the clutch... anyway all in all would have been around £2500.00 + travel expenses.

In the end I have decided to go to small private garage where a very good engineer was reluctant to say at first how much it will cost and if he can fix the car but asked me to leave it there for a few days so can have a look in detail.

He called me after 3 days and asked to take it for a ride and see if I get the selfrevving again or any issues with the DSG. Although I had little confidence I was extremely surprised to notice that after I drove around 100 miles the car was working even better than in the moment I bought it.

It's now already 2 weeks since this was fixed and I did over 1000 miles and it is perfect.

When I asked what he did to fix it he said that he changed the oil in the DSG and changed the oil filter of the dsg. That's it...

Lesson learned... avoid manufacturers approved services... :)

I must say I would have thought that would have been the first thing they suggested... although I am no expert...

If I remember right when I had my Seat Exeo they had an issue with 1st to 2nd gear changes when cold, seemed to be stiff... that was the solution to that issue, change the gearbox oil...

Glad to see you appear sorted now :)

Glad I have a manual box ;-)

Glad I have a manual box ;-)

Not problem free though. Someone on here with a notchy change. My gearbox went on my Octavia. No change from £2200 Inc refurbished box, dmf, clutch and labour!

I was in China while this was happening. The issue related to the boxes overheating in stop start traffic. Well nearly the whole of Shanghai is stop start. Truly awful. New mineral based oil I believe was the permanent fix.

These fancy boxes are all very well , but they add to the initial cost . the running costs and they won't do the miles that a manual will.

These fancy boxes are all very well , but they add to the initial cost . the running costs and they won't do the miles that a manual will.

Will they not? Plenty of diesel dsg taxis around here with intergalactic mileages. Like anything it depends on how it's been treated and serviced.

My box failed at around the mid 70k miles. Hardly high mileage. Yet the box in our mk1 Furby vRS felt rifle bolt smooth still at 110k.

Either of them had got to better than a CVT box
