  • Hydrogen will be the leap forward. Infrastructure, battery technology, and insufficient lithium reserves mean battery power will never become mainstream

  • VAG will find a way to fit complex drive belts that need changing every 4 years and DSG that will be ultra reliable.....

  • Believe it or not, London congestion charge is not an issue for the vast majority of us living in the UK.

and challenges.

Important points there.  If we are really serious about improving air quality we simply have to apply the tax tweaks.

No GST / VAT on electric cars (or maybe the reduced rate of 5% like for electricity).

Proper investment in infrastructure ie forcing big petrol stations to convert pumps to charging stations.

The Trump effect on Iran oil exports has turbocharged fuel pump prices here ......... time to think about transitioning into BEVs ......unless dealerships resist for their own benefit.

The affects indeed have become widespread as it is not just at the pumps but many shipping lines are putting on an Emergency Surcharge on fuel for bulk, container and oil tankers of up to $100 a tonne, some of these ships burn over 300 tonnes a day in fuel ie almost a tonne a mile.

So there is additional costs on even delivering the fuel before the Oz, UK etc government slaps its Excise duty and VAT !

The transnational refinery operators have been closing down rather than updating and consequently we are vulnerable with only 42 days supply at best.   Nervous times.

7 months in, I've done 6500 miles out of my 8000 annual PCP allowance. With rising diesel prices, I'm considering calling finance and increasing mileage allowance to 12000 miles and use my EV almost exclusively.

Last time I drove my Skoda was to fill up as I saw the news of Trump's sanctions on Iran. The diesel still had more than half tank of winter grade diesel.

The sooner we move energy dependence away from middle East the better. EV is the obvious first step.

Most of the price hike of oil is down to OPEC cutting production to force the price up and Venezuela being a complete basket case. Tax breaks for buying an EV is pie in the sky, when we are all driving EV's where are the government going to get the tax from to replace the lost revenue from petrol and diesel?

Insurance premium tax, Higher road tax and  VAT for starters.  Oh they already are but plenty of room to hike.  IPT to same level as VAT. Road tax from 30 to 140 a year. How about VAT to 21 or 22 % up from when it was 8 10 15 and 17.5 %. Plenty of headroom here and they still will not balance the books probably.

I expect roads will be tolled we can’t avoid being tracked either.

We love the technology.

Water proofing would be a good idea...

^^^^ yeah nothing can go wrong I guess.

?

How good are petrol engines without waterproofing and raised air intakes?

Just so long as this can’t happen -

The UK & Scottish Governments need to get on with the infrastructure for the storage of the renewables generated electricity,

more Hydro Pump Storage and people able to store electricity in workplaces, homes and cars and more production of hydrogen from the electricity generated by wind, wave, solar & get on with the carbon capture scheme at Peterhead.   Also get the new nuclear power stations built and online as well.  Then the new Interconnectors to Norway.

That's a reserved area so Theresa May needs to get on with it. Trouble is she's more obsessed with Brexit and cutting immigration.

I see Boris confuses Trump induced chaos with diplomatic strategy.

Gives legitimacy to the question as to why bother with an education.

If VBH is OK with it, then so am i.

Reserved matters and Devolved matters are important in the approving and financing but at some point the bumping of gums needs to stop and things start to happen.

So much talking about being green yet so little happening that can be seen.  (almost a rhyme... for the slime....  The 'Green Slime'.)

Maybe someone should start producing a Modern Hillman Imp with Electric Motors.

We have the land available for a plant and the steel production & those with the knowledge.

Just the job for Jim Ratcliffe of INEOS.

Full breakdown recovery will be essential as even having a breakdown 20 miles from home with an electric bike can be a real PITA.

You need to thumb a lift with a pickup or the likes, or leave the bike someplace safe and get home for your own vehicle,

or be able to phone a friend.

Sounds a long way for such a little battery pack.  Is that on Ukraine terrain ie the deal flat Steppes and riding at 20 kms/hr for 19 hours I wonder ?

Here is Worcester we have G-Tech and I gather their range is more like 30 miles or about 50 kms, mixed terrain I would have thought is more realistic for most EV bikes ?

Thngs move on.

My e-bike has 90 Nm on demand and gets my 115kg & packed lunch etc up hills for around 20 miles and back another 20 miles on about 60% assistance.

25-30 miles is easily achievable using 100% assistance.

£715 for a 504 kwh battery, & can charge 700 times and i have charged mine 60 times in just under 2,000 miles, it is the 460 kwh one.

I have ridden good quality E-Bikes for trails and offroad that can cover 50 miles on a charge and they can now be bought with double batteries on the bike.

I am looking forward to when i get the chance to try one of the bikes from the Ukraine & see the truth of it.

  • 3 weeks later...

I am at a Skoda. / SEAT dealership right now handing back a car and ordering a new one. No Skoda, SEAT or VW EV,s available now, or even a date for ones being available. Not even a light hybrid. So a SEAT Ateca diesel DSG it will be because the Karoq or Kodiaq are just too shiny black plastic inside and all style over practicality.   VW speak lots on 'green' but just fail to even get near producing the product.

Just KISS!
