EA888 2.0 TSI Revised Cam Chain Tensioner Parts

Featured Replies

I'm researching fitting the revised cam chain tensioner and gathering a list of part numbers. This would be pre-emptive if I do go ahead, but as I plan to keep the car for the foreseeable, i'm thinking it would make sense to get it done.

I have a CCZA engine code.

Which parts do I need? Any benefit to fitting other parts at the same time? I've seen mention of rails and all sorts, with bills ranging from £250 to £600+

Cam Chain: 06K 109 158 AD
Cam Tensioner: 06K 109 467 K
Chain: 06H 109 158 N
Tensioner: 06H 109 467 AE

06H 103 144 J – Bracket (or only 06H 103 081 E – Mesh) – all optional

06H 103 483 C – Gasket
06H 103 483 D – Timing Chain Cover Gasket (O-ring)
06K 109 158 AD – Timing chain
06H 109 210 Q – (or only 06H 103 085 G – Crankshaft Seal, but it may be very difficult to replace it)
06K 109 467 K – Tensioner
06H 109 509 Q – Guide
06H 109 469 T – Guide
06H 109 469 AP – Guide
N 910 001 01 – Timing Chain Cover Gasket
N 105 449 04 – Bolt (crankshaft)

Subscribed! I'm in a similar predicament as my warranty runs out in two months. Can't decide whether to do the tensioner and keep the car, or trade up to a MK3 VRS TDI

Anyone?

From memory there are the two tensioners that you'd probably be as well to change, I would personally just do the guides as they are cheap then check the chain when accessed and make sure it hasn't stretched. Wouldn't do any harm to allow for it just in case

Then you'll also likely need the gaskets and covers that break

Thanks for your reply. The same rodenal as on OCUK by any chance?

Further googling ( http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=178433 ) confirms that there are two tensioners - these are the parts that have been revised and would benefit from replacement?

Lower Tensioner = 06H 109 467 AE
Upper Tensioner = 06K 109 467 K

Guides - these are cheap and may as well be replaced, but aren't required.

06H 109 509 Q – Guide
06H 109 469 T – Guide
06H 109 469 AP – Guide

Gaskets - these are required as the old gaskets will likely be damaged in removal.

N 910 001 01 – Timing Chain Cover Gasket
06H 103 483 C – Gasket
06H 103 483 D – Timing Chain Cover Gasket (O-ring)

The chain itself (06K 109 158 AD) will probably be fine and the rest of the parts are only reuqired if the chain is going to be replaced? https://www.drive2.ru/l/2446397/ lists the parts if of help to anyone :)

I'll be getting a garage to do this, I just want to make sure that I get the correct parts changed and the latest revision fitted :)

I've had this recently done on a 33k mk2 fl estate. Personally, based on advice I received by mechanics quoting for job and a previous experience with a mk5 tsi chain, I'd do the chain at the same time given the price of getting in there and the cost of the chain is under £80 from memory..

Als the lower cover can easily be damaged on removal and is quite pricey. I replaced mine but was almost £100 from memory. I'm not at home now but could check receipts for numbers if you want me to.

Thanks. That would be great if you could check the receipt. Why did you get yours done? Preventative? Warranty claim?

Preventative play after recently purchasing car. Paranoid after stretched timing chain in a golf mk5 tsi at 42k miles. I'll dig out the receipt but will be tomorrow night.

Guilty as charged, don't really come on here that often though

Whilst my tensioner has/had failed it was ultimately the resultant chain stretch that caused the jump so make sure it's well within spec if deciding not to change or if you've had any sort of startup rattle

OK.

The timing chain was 06K 109 158 AD = Cost ex vat £56.53

The lower timing cover was 06H 109 210 AG = Cost ex vat £65.67

Funnily enough, (ironic some might say), the plastic cover was, by a margin, the most expensive item part - almost twice the problematic tensioner price!

Those were the invoiced cost by the mechanic, which should be pretty much pass through TPS prices, but could vary a little I suppose.

Well i finally got my finger out and started getting quotes. I contacted Shark as i'm looking to get a remap done as well, and they came back with a quote for 352440181 chain and tensioner kit, which seems to be

FAI TCK127

Anyone have any thoughts on the kit?

From my a couple of quick google searches, FAI kits seem well regarded.

That kit looks to be associated with the camshaft, not the problematic lower tensioner.

Seems Shark is a bit confused ... That kit is for older FSI/TFSI (such as engine code BWA, family EA113 if I remember well), which had yet timing belt, chain only for cam shaft variator.

Those parts you need I would get only at VAG dealer, any aftermarket can be not the right ones ... OEM supplier is BorgWarner and its brand Morse, haven´t seen any proper replacements yet.

I knew they weren't the parts needed, and was struggling to place them.

Shark's website doesn't know the difference either.  My 2009 TSI's reg brings up 2004-2008 TFSI on their site.

Best to speak always about engine code, as CCZA etc., this will save a lot of misunderstanding and trouble. TSI, TFSI is just marketing mess, even renowned tuners do not know ...
