The 230 is only £730 more than a Standard 220 ( hatch ) and with so much extra kit it's well worth the extra cash.Leather, heated seats, folding eletric mirrors, black pack, sunset glass, fancy front

  • No. I got the 230 for the diff and financially it made sense based on the other kit you get thrown in vs a 220. Spec a 220 with to match a 230 and it'll cost you more. The additional 10bhp was irrelev

Thanks daquifsta

They have positioned decals in wrong place too

No different to the dealers who supplied my Focus ST.

I ordered some customised 3D number plates.  Removing the rear plates revealed two standard factory drilled holes.  Good, ok so far.

Removing the front plates revealed that the dealership had ignored the factory drilled holes and had chosen to drill their own.  Except they obviously had several changes of mind during the process.........my front bumper has six very amateur holes drilled plus the two that Ford helpfully provided.

Thankfully, everything is hidden behind the plate but why don't dealerships simply use the template provided by the manufacturer?

one of my pet hates that; when they can't be arsed using a template and just lash a drill or self tappers into the bumper.

I asked them to leave mine off but they didn't but thankfully stuck them on instead of screwing them into place

The number of high end motors costing 10's of thousands and the rear number plate isn't straight.

Having said that the owner is to blame for not complaining

Mine arrived at the dealers on friday but i cant pick it up till the 22nd as im offshore wait is killing me ????.

Im just looking at the round briskoda stickers for my rear windows should i go for the outside stickers because of the sunset glass has anyone tried the inside ones on the sunset glass what does it look like.

Ive even downloaded the manuals and im reading through them ready to go.

Got a few plans as well, think im going to fit mudflaps, rear sill protectors, red boot nets, rubber floor mat for tbe boot. Im going to replace the interior lights with leds.

Considering lowering it definitely fitting spacers front and rear and last but not least getting it professionally ceramic coated to keep it looking good.

Oh and almost forgot pressed metal no. plates!

I got my Black 230 Estate in April. Done 7.5K now. I love the thing. Didn't at first as thought it was unrefined and started to regret the purchase. However I searched around and realised the lack of refinement was artificial being generated by a stupid childish device in the bulkhead. It still makes a racket in economy mode and found it unbearable on the other settings. Unplugged it and fitted the under bonnet sound insulation, hey presto it was transformed, loved it ever since. Not sure the sound deadening made much difference the culprit was the stupid device under the bonnet. But the sound deadening was cheap online so worth fitting.

The ironic thing is the 230 makes a fantastic natural sound without it, growls nicely and bearably under power from the exhaust, it didn't need it!

Economy was poor at first, low 30's. It is now high 30's and mid 40's on a steady run easy enough, probably not much different to the diesel. The engine is a peach, silent when pottering.  It has used about 1.5 litres of oil in 7.5k but was probably from bedding in. Definitely takes 5k to loosen these engines up. The claimed 230 hp is way out. Superchips got 270hp out of a standard car. You can tell when you drive them, they are very quick, not much can stay with them. The power gets stronger and stronger right into the red! In fact makes changing gear on the manual a little difficult at full pelt. Take no notice of people who say its only 230, its not, its a lot more! I jumped out of mine into a test drive of a 300hp S3 Quattro saloon. It didn't feel much quicker, only marginally and wasn't as refined as the VRS. The handling and ride of the 230 are very good considering.

The diff is strange, I thought I might have a fault. On a slippery road under power you get loud banging coming from the wheels as it switches sides scrambling for grip, and I mean loud banging!

The high gloss black trim is poor, scratches at the sight of a cloth, I dare not touch it.The sat nav screen detail is great, better than Audi but can't find postcodes?? The DAB radio has poor reception so I have switched to FM.I seem to have problems with a few switches like the one shot windows and seat memory can take a few goes sometimes. But overall the cars quality is excellent, makes buying over a VW a no brainer. My other car is a 66 plate A6 Quattro, so I have something to compare too. Everything in the Audi is that little bit better quality but its not a big difference and some you could say purely cosmetic. I bought the 230 stickers but they were far larger when I got them than I expected, removed after a few days!

Like I said I love the car, it just has character and even with the huge alloys stays quite refined once it got some miles on. My front tyres have 5 mm left on them the rears still look new after 7.5k. Oh, I got the Apple link/play whatever its called activated by the dealer. What an utter waste of money, it is absolutely useless, the standard Bluetooth connection is far superior. You get a dozen or so apps from your iPhone on the screen and that's it, but lose quite  a bit of functionality when connected by Bluetooth.

Sorry, ended up like a road test!

Very interesting write up and one I would totally agree with; especially with regard to the power and it's delivery.

very nice review, I look forward to the extra power over my mk2 170cr!  where is this dodgy sound generator and is there an easier way of disabling it? my boy racer days are well and truly over these days!!

Good review :-) I've only had mine for a week, and don't have any problems with the sound generator..Perhaps some 230's are set different to others? Also, I live in the sticks in Northumberland, and find the DAB awesome ...especially with the Canton system :-)

Good write up teescom, pretty much my thoughts on the power. They are absolutely rapid.

As with above, my DAB seems fine, I've only lost signal once and that was in the middle of North Wales.

Teescom09: I agree with you regarding the Power. Feels quick. Has to be atleast 250 BHP. A very nice car. Wish the level of roadnoise was a bit less.

Has anyone owned a 220 then onto a 230?

I'm curious if both feel as quick as eachother or wether the 230 has been given more than the claimed +10hp?

Interesting comments on the DAB. I was thinking it was better originally. Maybe needs looking at. I am near Durham and get hit and miss TFM2 and Metro 2, none of my other cars have had this problem.

I think the road noise is ok for a sports suspension on these alloys. The MQB platform isolates well. It is pure tyre noise you get and is directly from the road surface. On good modern surfaces there isn't any, as quiet as my audi at all speeds. Not noticed any problems at 70+ either. But get on a Co Durham bodged up tar and chippings road, then it gets audible, but no worse or less than that pesky device under the bonnet. Disconnect that first! The tyres quieten down when you put a few miles on them and also quieter when warmed up. Check your pressures, I set mine to the book, too soft increases the noise. The S3 I nearly bought instead of the A6 was less refined than the 230 and had more road noise.

To unplug the toy town device you just pull a couple of clips off the wiper cover trim until you can squeeze your hand in to get at the plug on the speaker. It's near the middle right side. Bit of a squeeze though. Took 5 mins. And well worth it to hear it's proper sound in my opinion. I think it's an age thing. We spent years putting up with unrefined rough cars. They are great now so it doesn't go down well when the ruin them with silly gadgets!

Oh just to add. I used the local hand car washes that have sprouted up. Do a great job BUT.... They have ruined the paint finnish on my VRS brake hubs and did the same on the calipers of my last A6. The chemicals they use strip paint and did so on both my cars! The VRS hubs are now rusty and with the open alloys look bad, I need to re paint them. They stripped the silver finnish off my last A6 calipers. I dread to think what its does to seals etc. Dare not use them now. Although you could tell them not to use chemicals on your wheels?? Sorry drifted off topic!

Ideally when repainting hubs then you need to coat the entire wheel rim with a protective coating like gtechniq exo. Once done you won't need harsh chemicals to clean as the brake dust build up is less.

A good non acidic wheel cleaner like sonar full effect will be great.

I've never understood why you would need anything other than regular wash/wax to clean wheels and hubs? unless you only wash your car once or twice a year! a good regular weekly wash is all that's needed!

Picking mine up in the morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The diff is strange, I thought I might have a fault. On a slippery road under power you get loud banging coming from the wheels as it switches sides scrambling for grip, and I mean loud banging!

Not a fault - what you're experiencing is axle tramp, effectively grip/slip/grip of the tyre and associated bounce in the suspension - its not the diff causing this. Stiffer dampers reduce this, as does better geo on the front, or grippier tyres, stiffer bushes, or a more "progressive" right foot ;)

The stars aligned and I picked up my 230 this afternoon.....it's awesome had a mk1 and mk11 vrs and this is a huge step up from the mk11. Just one gripe though I'm sure I was told the 230 had the start stop button....mine hasn't!

I was in a meeting with work today when some jumped up salesman type was slagging off Skodas.

I explained I had one and that the old view of Skodas is exactly that, old and outdated.

I gave him a wave and a little parp as I blasted past him and his rep mobile BMW on the M1  :D
