Top Gear Starts Sunday BBC2, 20.00hrs

Thought it was a bit dull this week.

I usually do the ironing while watching TG, The celeb section is my cue to go hang stuff up.

Also noticed that the Jag arrived just in the nick of time, minus any dust grime or splattered flies from a 13hr trip. Would rather have seen a [proper review of the motor than a silly stunt. Plus encouraging a 13hr drive when you're meant to take a break every 2hr, naughty beeb.

Matt continues to grow on me, Chris Harris should just forget the props and drive the cars.

Evans is becoming a spare wheel.

Matt in the studio with Rory or one of teh others, Harris and Reid reviewing cars properly. Sabine and Matt + others for a the silly stuff. And Get Sabine doing some motorsport stuff.

For all the sneering (not on here, mostly in the comments section of the Guardian and elsewhere), some expressing a dislike of Evans or LeBlanc etc etc, I'm really looking forward to watching a beauti

  • No one.   Just leave it to Chris Harris, Sabine and Rory.   No need for doing stupid things and blowing up stuff. That's what Clarkson, Hammond and May do and you are never going to replicate the

Boring episode.

Jag SVR is a great car but we didn't really see it, did we? And an E Type beat it by 10 mins, really?

Can we lock Evans in his dressing room for episode 6, and see if anyone even notices, never mind complains?

In any event, the correct answer to "best Rolls Royce" since the "Silver Shadow" was introduced was always "the one with the Bentley badge and radiator shell".

Dressing room - he doesn't use it, anyone else notice he's been wearing the same yellow t-shirt and jumper for every show. And what's with the boots?

Also what was he wearing when driving the RR - suede jacket, bleached jeans and red shoes!!!!

It made the press, he's maybe doing it deliberately now.

Not really bother what he wears. Matt seems to be getting the British sense of humour quite well. He's probably getting more confident now with favourable reviews.

Although Top Gear has had quite a few presenters and formats in the past Clarkson and co. had made the show theirs and could never be continued without them.

And what the presenters  wear is the least of the new shows problems  :D

I never liked the SIARPC section, and the current version is even worse. The American TG dropped the studio stuff and just did challenges. That worked out much better, particularly given the roads & scenery they have access to.

Quite why they feel the need to keep going on about getting 'air' on that tiny jump I don't know - this is how it should be done:

It's far too long with two guests.  Bad enough with one. Chris (Evans) was again very "shouty".

I think Matt suited that review more than anything he's done so far, his slow talking style matched the car more IMHO. They seamed to have turned Chris' mic up again which is a shame.

I agree with this, I think he was definitely best placed to do the review. What an amazing car it is too. I know Evans is entitled to his own opinion on it, but the way he seemed to slate the thing, began to irritate me and I can't imagine many others agreed with him.

My dad who has 0 fashion sense actually commented on Evans clothes which don't really bother me, but thought it was quite funny that even he commented on it.

I would have also have liked to seen more of the Jag, take it round the track etc. Whilst I sort of appreciate the sentiment behind the piece, in honour of the old guy and the e type, it was a bit boring and as others have said, they only just made it but had time for a full valet.

SIARCC was pretty boring, and I can't think why the stars would want to go on it other than for the fee they're paid and to plug what ever they're doing at the time, like a new film or whatever.

Didn't really think much of last nights episode over all.

How did the E type beat him by 10mins? No channel tunnel back then and the boat would have been a couple of hours. He should have been an hour and a half ahead at least!

No traffic cops or speed cameras and cast iron balls I guess.

Must have been a big queue at the hand car wash Rory obviously stopped at for a shampoo and polish before driving in to the show.

I assume the E Type had a bit more of a relaxed attitude to speed limits than the BBC will have done.

Disappointed with the new Top Gear - lost my viewing

I'm not far behind you, it's only my love of cars that's keeping me watching now, but I'm not sure that will last much longer. May just tune in for the NSX bit next week and bin the rest.

Problem is the good bits of the show (the exotica at the beginning and Harris' thrashing) are the shortest sections.

Have to question why in 56 minutes there's only 8 minutes worth watching by and large, even if the new set up does still need to find its feet it's just not good enough.

I'm not sure there even *were* speed limits then - at least not on motorways in the UK?

But surely much fewer motorways and much more fiddly minor roads than now.

THIS! Totally agree.

It's getting better overall I think. I'm skipping the whole SIARPC section.

Extra Gear was dull last week, they also need to ditch the guests unless they have something interesting and car related to talk about.

The old guy was awesome though this week.

Remove Chris Evans and Matt.

Chris Harris, Rory and Sabine as the three presenters

Job done.

The 70 mph limit on motorways was imposed on 22.12.1965, about 6 month before I passed my car driving test!

The 70 mph limit on motorways was imposed on 22.12.1965,

Thanks to " Shelby " I believe

More likely the Aston Martins.

Norman Dewis ( the old guy ) describes how the M1 was used on a regular basis for trials of C and D Type Jaguars.

Thanks to " Shelby " I believe

Jenson was the myth I heard.

Jenson was the myth I heard.

They were not the only ones, the dad of a school friend was a chauffeur for GKN in the 60's/70's. He would shuttle top brass to and from Heathrow, from Birmingham. His boast was he could do the 110 ish mile run in an hour door to door. Which was an average speed of around 120 mph.

The Top Gear USA Cuba special is very good, if anyone wants a decent car show.

Chris Harris' review of the M2 was the worst he's done IMO. I think he's been told to up his excitement levels to try and compete with old TG and it doesn't suit him - makes him look a bit of a tool. And whilst I have no doubt the M2 is a great drive, the RS3 would walk all over it in the wet.

Why does Chris Evans wear the same outfit for each show?

Having watched a few old TG shows on Dave in the past week whilst catching up with new TG on iPlayer (the only way to watch it) the fact that the new presenters aren't journalists is blindingly obvious. Having presenters and actors do the stuff of journalists has ruined it for me.

Having said that, I'd be happy to see Chris Evans replace Evan Davies on Newsnight (just to tone down the interviews)!
