For all the sneering (not on here, mostly in the comments section of the Guardian and elsewhere), some expressing a dislike of Evans or LeBlanc etc etc, I'm really looking forward to watching a beauti

He was quoted as saying 'I've done my bit. I couldn't possibly achieve more'

Oh, wait :wait:  that was Farage :D

Have McVitie's been in contact with you yet? Apparently they want to start legal proceeding regarding the theft of some of there jokes lol  :p

Not sure I'd bothering keep Matt Le Blanc either.

Top Gear need to do something different but they have three great presenters among the current team, they need to find a replacement format not a replacement presenter.

Yep. They seemed to be gelling by the end of the last show.

I quite liked him, but it's the American ratings that will make the difference and also if gets offered anything else stateside.

I also thought Matt was pretty good by and large, especially if they do things that have a comedic element. Not a bad driver either to be fair.

Jagwar. Nuff said.

I was expecting Chris Evans twitter page to say:

I'm leaving Top Gear FACT, I ruined Top Gear FACT, This weeks viewing figures down to 1.9 million FACT.

Now the BBC can re format the show away from the Clarkson era. While they're at it call the show something different, then it won't be compared to what went before.

Flop Gear.

Flop Gear.

I was thinking that the new show should not use the words 'top' or 'gear'

I say get rid of Rory and Eddie Jordan as well

Can we please get this engraved in stone and sent to the BBC please, hopefully banging it over their heads to get them to listen!!! SImple and superb analysis.

I'm guessing that the BBC are (very much) regretting taking such a formal approach to Clarkson's hitting of the producer. Obviously I didn't witness the incident, but I have a feeling that out in the 'real world' it would probably have been handled differently. The BBC's impenetrable urge to be politically correct often results it being wrong for trying to be right all the time.

That isn't to say that old (new) Top Gear wasn't in need of some sort of a revamp, but the BBC bosses seem to have shot themselves in the foot and deprived the license fee payers (well those that liked TG) of a show they enjoyed and that made them tonnes of money in overseas sales.

Not too long to go until we will find out if Clarkson, May & Hammond can make a successful, must see, motoring show outside the confines of the BBC.

Plus a brand new script! One of the biggest issues was the script writing IMO.  Mostly a carbon copy of what would have been written for Clarkson, Hammond and May but just sounded completely out of place with the current presenters and wasn't adapted to suit their personalities.  Many of the recorded segments (particularly the track pieces) sounded like they were written specifically for Clarkson!

Go to work today and punch someone, then see how that works out for you in the real world.

I've helped a client of mine deal with that exact situation. In the end a written warning was all that was needed. Both parties admitted their own responsibility for the situation arising. No further action was required.

Which is fine in a situation where both were out of order, but where a manager hits a subordinate who has done nothing wrong, it's not.

I also thought chris evans was the wrong choice for the show but I do like Matt Le Blanc

Assuming you weren't there either, all one relies on is what's been put out in the media - and we all know how accurate and reliable that can be. I don't believe for one minute that Clarkson hit the producer without any provocation whatsoever and who's to say the producer did nothing wrong? By all accounts he failed to ensure the welfare provisions of those he was working with - a task that I believe was under his responsibility as producer. That in its own right doesn't justify Clarkson's behaviour, but the idea that one side is 100% guilty and the other 100% innocent is a fallacy.

Now, clearly there were those in the BBC that didn't like Clarkson and wanted him out and their voices were listened to, along with those of social media's 'confected outrage mob'.

My point was that with the BBC's unswerving desperation to appear to be doing the 'right thing', they often get it wrong and I think this was a case in point.

Sure, but "chinning someone" is not a reasonable reaction to being told "sorry but chef has gone home".

If it had been Clarkson's first offence he might have got away with it but it was the final straw in a line of mistakes.

History anyway.

Lets see what he can do with the Grand Tour.

I hear they're putting celebrities in a Ford Fiesta and getting them to reverse park, should be more challenging than driving that Mini round a course with 4 corners.

Oh jeez I hope you're joking

Will none of the the producers get the point "no one gives a monkey's fart about celebrities in ****e cars"!!

Fortunately I am. I agree in terms of the Mini on old new old new new TG, and too much time was definitely given over to fairly inane chit chat, which let's be honest you're better off watching Graham Norton for. But at least with the track based Liana/Kia/Astra the celebs and viewers got more out of it because it was more about actually learning something and higher speeds were involved. Plus getting the F1 drivers to have a go was always worth a watch, and that's the kind of interview I am happy to listen to on TG.

Not to mention the opportunity to save about £3m quid a year in salary....
