For all the sneering (not on here, mostly in the comments section of the Guardian and elsewhere), some expressing a dislike of Evans or LeBlanc etc etc, I'm really looking forward to watching a beauti

  • No one.   Just leave it to Chris Harris, Sabine and Rory.   No need for doing stupid things and blowing up stuff. That's what Clarkson, Hammond and May do and you are never going to replicate the

Is that because Mrs G says so?

BTW how is she after the OP?

..........I'll be watching The Antiques Roadshow,

I will be watching paint dry (or changing my front shocks) - infinitely more entertaining than TG

I will watch this first one (or record) to see what it's like.

It seems that the press has been "out to get" the new TG since it was announced.

Car program so I'll watch.

Not expecting much from the first series.

Even old 'new' TG was a bit gash for a few series

Will be very hard to beat the Clarkson-Hammod-May trio imo. More possible that they lose the audience old TG had and gain a different one. Strangely enough as much of a c*ck I thought Clarkson was at times, I loved watching the show mainly due to his participation in it and his deadly statements. As above, it's a car show so I'll watch it but really forward to the Amazon show later this year.

From the ads it looks like they haven't actually changed much

If it ain't broke etc

Still gonna watch

it cant be worse than that scripted childish crap that top gear ended up being towards the end surely.

36 minutes to go,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

So far...WTF????

There's only one Top Gear. This isn't it! Dreadful.

Evans is awful, all the YAAAAYs and whoops that he uses on R2. Can't stand him. Don't need it on TG. JE & GR best and worst cars - tired with the style of his interviews already. Reliant road trip: utterly pointless segment/no challenge. What was going on? Clarkson in a Robin falling over on a cricket pitch - priceless! Leblanc is better than Evans by a fag paper, which isn't saying much. His script is better than Chris's for some reason. Don't think I'll be bothering with the rest of the series on the basis of this episode.

I was hoping it would be different theme and therefore something else to watch different - unfortunately when the SAME TG theme played and then everything else seems familiar (except the presenters) - it was just too easy to compare to the original TG.

If it was completely different then less for comparison. Now I don't know if Fifth Gear is worse or TG ...

Also got a feeling Matt feels like he made the wrong choice for appearing on TG - he dosent look or sound confident...

Did he really say "CHICKEN"??? - LOL

Matt is pretty good. Just turn Chris down from 11 to off and it will be fine. I think the problem is the script is still for old TopGear. People put up with that carp before because of Clarkson, Hammond and May. Now they've gone they are more critical of it.

Don't forget BBC3 has Harris on after it

Chris Evans is too loud and annoying, and Matt is as wooden as I feared. The star segment is really forced and awkward, and that's as far as I've got so far.

Still, they might get better with practice, and on the upside it's still looking great and we've got the Clarkson show to come.

I sort of got the point of the off-roaders coming after the Reliants when that segment finished on the hill but again, The Crevice was whooping and hollering all over it and generally being annoying. No Schmidt or Harris on the bits I saw and I CBA to watch another feed o ft his on BBC3 Online. Second series? NAH!

The old Top Gear was already becoming a parody of itself, so was in trouble even without the 'fracas' moment.
But this doesn't seem to be an improvement.
The scripts don't feel as good (Clarkson is a funny writer, after all) and I'm always uneasy with Evans' shows on TV (no problem with him on the Radio).
One thing I always liked about old Top Gear was the well-chosen music - this seems to have gone missing too.

Edit: and the 'star in a reasonably-priced car' bit was awful. Clarkson did some good interviews in that slot.

Matt's much better in the Nomad segment.

Jutland: The Navy's Bloodiest Day now on though, something to get the teeth into.

Top Gear, more like Ohh dear.

Matt Leblanc was passable, Evans was awful, over excited and full of his own importance. Guest reading the auto cue!!!!!!! Lots of padding with very little substance. Trying to copy the old format is a big mistake. Clarkson, Hammond and May must be pi$$ing themselves with laughter.

Must order an Amazon fire stick.

Rallycross star in a car segment!!! Amazing idea.

The rest was a bit meh

They were on offer at Argos on Thursday!
