A sensible user guide

Featured Replies

Hi why is the Skoda user guide so awful?

Has anyone tried to re-write it?

It can be downloaded, we might edit it to cut out all the crap

And add the detail that it misses

Ideas ?

Totally agree - it is like wading through a haystack to find a needle...........

In the sense that eventually you feel a bit of a pr1ck?

Use the pdf version. I see no problem finding things there...not that I need to

I think the difficulty, as with most modern electronic devices (which cars are these days) is that there are so many little details to document that it's extremely difficult for such a manual to be both comprehensive and comprehensible.

When I got my car a couple of years ago, I flicked through the manual but didn't really find anything interesting but since then, I've discovered many nice little features from this forum.  Mostly these things are in the manual but hard to spot unless you know what you're looking for.

I agree that the PDF version is more useful as you can at least search for keywords.  If only you could also search for icons that appear the dashboard - several eluded me for a long time before I discovered what they meant!

Well...one important thing to keep in mind is that if all of them go on at the same time that means problems... :D

Or wading through a needle-stack to find some hay...

Never had this problem with my Ford Anglia 105E  in 1969. :sun:

6 pages in bold print too iirc?

Near 50% of it is "danger of death" type stuff, and the rest needs to be thoroughly re-written by someone with a better grasp of english. And if it HAS been translated from Czech by a native english speaker they should be ashamed. It's worse than the Japanese manuals that came with Toyota/Datsun etc in the early 70s, - and they WERE bad - but they learned quick.

Goodness knows why in the 21st century Skoda can't see the need for this.

"How to open the fuel filler cap. Turn clockwise, and anti clockwise to replace".....with a little  arrow showing which is which for the mentally challenged.  :D

Think it was the other way around actually!

With instructions like that I guess you would need the arrow

I thought they had put the steering wheel the wrong side then realised I'd just come back from a holiday in America.    :nerd:

Yes, and there is a warning somewhere saying 'do not open the doors when driving at 70 mph on the motorway, or words to that effect
