Apple or Droid

Featured Replies

Apple has Airdrop which allows photo's etc. to be shared between Apple devices.

It'll may do, but you cannot transfer files to anything but another Apple device, you can't transfer from an iPhone to Android or vice versa. Only within marque.

You'd be better off with the LG G4, better specified and it has a card slot for memory expansion, I have a 128Gb Micro sdxc in mine.

I have a Win Phone (Blu HD LTE) and it's  great but suffer from "where are all the apps" problem.  I thought it would improve after MS announced that you would be able to "convert" Android apps to Win10 and WIn10 will be rolled out to Win8.1 phones.  Neither of these has happened (MS dropped support for the conversion app and only have rolled out a few WIN10 upgrades).

We have 4 Win8.1 phones - 520 (spare) , two 630 and Blu HD and I think when all these fail / break it will be a switch to Android (Apple phones are just too expensive.)  MS seems to have lot the plot again.

At least if these get broken or lost they were very cheap (cost of all phones < iphone)

Battery life not a bit...pish?

Mind you struggling to find anything that doesn't have crap battery life.

Definitely Droid for me - started on an S2, then had an S4 and now on an S6.

Would not have an apple phone.

As said above, try transferring files from an Iphone to anything but an apple product and you will struggle. Now do the same with a droid - no problems!

Had both, prefer Apple for tables, could never get on with Android Tablets but prefer android for phones, have gone from a Sony Z1 to a z3+ and will upgrade to a newer Sony when my contract comes up.

Apple for me.

Used Android before and it is a PITA, Apple is so much easier when it comes to keeping your files where you want them plus I like the whole ability of being able to Facetime and send Imessages FOC.

Yeah, what I like is I can then go to my Ipad & access that file with ease etc.

Not sure how iOS works, but I just sync everything to my Google drive or Dropbox so I can access & share files on any of my devices or a computer when out and about.

Same happens with pictures and videos same as iOS.

Hardly any of my iPhone owning friends uses facetime - instead opting for WhatsApp as it works regardless of the device the other person has.

Went to London with mine the other day. Battery lasted from 6am when I left beyond 1030pm when I returned and had to be charged at 9am next day.

That's the problem with Apple. You have to use Apple systems and you're locked in to dealing only with other Apple users.

I use Microsoft one drive and Google drive for cloud, and Skype and Skype for business for video calling. I can speak to people regardless of whether they're on a Windows pc, Mac or whatever phone platform they're on.

Face time would be fine if everyone was on Apple.... But they're not

Most MS services seem to be available on the Apple Store. Android as well. I use Onedrive a lot and Skype.

I've just upgraded my 2.5 yr old LG G2 - which used to last more than a day on a charge but was draining every 5 hours - to a G4

i moved from a Sim only contract with 3 to a pay monthly contract - for an extra £8 a month on top of what I've been paying, working out at less than £200 over the 2 years for the phone.

okay it's not the newest thing (don't like the G5 since they moved the rear buttons) but anyone who still sells them is asking around 250 -300, and it's still a good phone.

G4 on Three looks like one of the better deals. Option are heavy on data and low on minutes which suits me.

yup, that's what I went for.

Pretty sure Three do all their phones unlocked if you get it from them directly as well which is always a plus.

just to update you on the battery life, my G4 is currently showing that it has used 33% battery in 22 hours 53 minutes

OK so I was on a day off yesterday and was busy not using the phone that much but it has been syncing away collecting email on three different accounts in those 23 hours plus keeping google drive and one drive all synced up.

Truly an impressive phone

44% used in 25 hours now

Buy the phone outright and get a separate sim, it should be cheaper.

+1 for droid. Used to be apple, now moving off ( 4+years on phones at least )

I have a Sony Z1, battery is good, has stamina mode so shuts stuff down below (configurable ) 20%. Managed 4 days in the highlands between flight and stamina. Flight when in no signal areas and at night.

I was looking at the moto x £240 one, with the 3500mah battery, looks good, overall not that much of a bump over the flagship as was Z1 from a years back, but a third of the cost of a new flagship.

Both iOS devices and Android will have terrible battery life compared to your Windows device.  I'm in the rare position of having all 3 (Nokia 650 for work, HTC 10 for personal and iPhone 5s for faffing and used to be my old Spotify jukebox in the ol' Mazda) and each has their strengths/weaknesses:

- iPhone: If you are happy to live in Apple's walled garden, this is the choice for you.  Integration with other Apple products is faultless, Apple Store support when something goes wrong is great (they just swap it there and then!) and the user experience and app availability is second to none.  The hardware is somewhat overpriced and if you like to tinker - forget it (unless you're willing to jailbreak the device).  CarPlay is seamless but you're limited to Apples selection of apps.  You will pay for the privilege though...  Battery last a day and a half, tops.

- Android: Where Google's products are strongest is in the 'freedom of choice' department.  There are hundreds of handsets to choose from and if you don't like the OS, swap it for a different version or add in features you do like!  You can tweak everything which can be great but can also be the root of many issues (I speak from experience here!).  It's finally catching up with Apple on services like Google Pay but Android Auto is buggy and a bit of a mess in Android 6.0.  Still - the fact I can make this phone do pretty much anything I need it to with a few tweaks and hardware add-ons makes this my favourite, even if I do only get a day's use before charging.

- Windows: You already know about this.  A solid OS but is badly supported, despite the promises of better integration with Windows 10.  Will run for 4-5 days between charges though!

Belated update

Just ordered an iPhone SE 64 from John Lewis (2yr warranty).

Just couldn't quite bring myself to go back (further) into the Google database willingly.

Also I just like to try new things. At least if I don't like it it should be easy to sell on an unlocked iPhone.

Switched from iPhone to Sony xperia Z2 2 years ago, now got a Samsung S7 edge. Samsung were really poor until the S6 came out, it genuinely felt like a premium phone, the S7 has went a step further and also added micro sd support.

Apple for me at least have went down the way since Steve Jobs was sadly taken from the world
