Skoda Octavia MK3 Heated windows vision problem ?

Featured Replies

Hy all,

I just ordered a brand new Skoda Octavia Mk3 Style 1.8 TSI DSG and one of the optional i have put on is the HEATED WINDSCREEN.

Today i found by mistake a lot of forums where people have different opinions about seeing the wires in the glass or having vision problem in the night or/and in the rain.

I'm addressing to all the Mk3 owners that have this option to tell me their opinion. Are the wires visible on this Octavia model ? Is glare appearing in the night with/without rain ?

I'm thinking the technology advanced so much the wires are thin enough to not be visible, but who knows.

Can some owner of this type of windshield take some pictures from the driving position and a macro of the windshield ?

I'm really thinking to remove the option if it's really a vision problem at night or if the wires are visible. That is why i'm mainly asking Mk3 owners .. to see if the technology evolved.

Thanks.

Yes the wires are visible but I don't find them annoying or distracting

For me, the wires are visible if I look at them. But when I'm driving, I'm looking several hundred yards down the road, so never actually notice them when driving. I think some people get so caught up in noticing them that they can't stop themselves.

They are visible.

But doesnt cause glare or other visionproblems.

They are visible but not in focus when you are driving. In my view this is one of the best extras you can get.

Thank you for your replies.

I was worried about this feature reading on forums about driving at night or/and on rain.

Maybe it's dependent of the person.

Can someone post some pictures from driving position to the windscreen and a macro of the wires on daytime to see the difference ?

Thanks.

A diligent driver will have a focal point of at least 100 metres further along the road.

Anyone whose focal point is the windscreen 8 inches in front of their nose really shouldn't be on the road.

I have them and and photo won't do them any justice.  You won't see them well on a photo as  you will either have to focus on something outside the car, in which case they will be invisible, or focus closely on the wires and everything else will be blurry.

If you're worried I think the only thing to do will be find a car with them to see for yourself - from my experience they are exactly the same on VW Group and Ford cars so you won't just need to find a Skoda to test them

I look at the road not the screen. No issues here.

The wires very occasionally cause scatter patterns in low sun conditions. Other than that no problem at all. Plusses hugely outweigh minuses

I didnt understand why people was complaining about the wires beeing visible, but that was before my first cleaning of the inside of the windscreen.

After a couple of months ownership I saw a blueish sort of film on the inside of the windscreen and took som windows wipes to clean it.

That just made it worse, so I used som liquid window wash and clean the window several times.

Now I really see the wirepattern in the windscreen and in low sun condition its full of green and red glare patterns that is really annoyinng me.

Has anyone else seen this bluish film on their new cars?

And what are you using to clean the windscreen?

I find Ecloths, water and elbow grease best for cleaning the glass on the car. http://www.e-cloth.com

Not sure if it's from the plastics but especially when it was new the glass got manky really quickly.

With regards to the heating wires. I have a heated screen and would do without it but if it's very foggy it can't make it more difficult to focus outside the car otherwise it's fine.

Thanks for your answers.

I got really lucky last evening when i was a passenger of an Octavia RS that had this. It was completely unexpected, because it didn't knew the person.

The story is : I got into the car and just talk to the guy and watched the road ahead talking about the car. At some point i wanted to ask about this heated window and i watched closely the window when i noticed he HAD this windscreen. The lines were not visible until that point because i was focusing on the road ahead.

So you are right .. the wires are NOT visible if you pay attention to the road ahead.

It was daytime and sunny so i can't pronounce on night vision with lights from ahead, or rain or fog.

I'm now convinced they are not a problem in the daytime.

Only thing i want to know is about the problem user "norsko" mentioned, about the grenn or blue tint after window cleaning. Is this common ? If yes how we can get rid of it ?

Don't focus on the wires.
