Can't wait for this thing to be back on the road!

Be good to get out on track with it and you again David :)

Just read through this - really making me miss my little Citigo :(

Hope you get yours back on the road soon!  Guess 2020 hasn't been the year for it...

Looks like a great little car! Love what you've done/did with it. A black roof with a black high level brake light might look good ;)

  • 2 months later...

First off, great looking build!  I have a qouple of questions for you:

  1. The Whiteline rear ARB that you fitted, which model did you fit since they don't have an ARB for a CitiGo?  Do you perhaps have a part number for it?
  2. The images on your post about the top strut brace seems to have gone bad (below).  Can you possibly repost them?  Or if possible PM them to me?  I am really curious about how easy they were to install, if you had to drill any holes or make modifications to fit them.

Cheers

Everything just fitted back on right, with exception to the drivers side scuttle, which doesn't sit flush anymore but it doesn't bother me.

In case anyone is still following, she's not dead yet 😂

New battery in today and fired right up, 1 light on the dash for the SRS light so nothing major! 1 step closer to getting it back on the road.

An actual update on this project that's worthy of a post for a change 😂 it's finally moved and been on the road, but not legally I'm afraid, just to get it onto the recovery and to my place, can finally start looking at getting it MOT ready, it definitely needs a wash as well 😷

And so it begins 😂 got started on some jobs today, mostly cleaning, all the mould that was inside is no longer there.

And after

For whatever reason I only took a photo of the wheel half way done 😂

Also found some automotive history, the first time I had to put fuel in the car 6/2/13!

Also done a scan of the car for a laugh, had about 7 fault codes come up, I really don't think that's too bad! Managed to clear them all as the majority were issues caused by the flat battery, still left with these 2 though so I'll look into this another day.

One of them could be the airbag switch which there was a recall for, other could be to do with the resistors for the seats, so should all be easily fixed 😅

What’s the plan? Surely this is surplus now you have the gti 😛

Pretty much the plan at the moment is get it back on the road to enjoy it 😊

Hopefully it shouldn't need to much work, I've already sussed the issue with the SRS light is likely due to the passenger resistor failing so a nice easy fix.

Definitely needs a service/new air filter and needs to be given a real good clean, especially the engine bay, it's gone mouldy 😂

Also need to look at the bushes (MOT advisory) and I want to replace the rear suspension, maybe paint the drums and look at doing the brake fluid too,

The tyres all look fine which is good, can't see any obvious cracks in the tread, just need some air in them.

Not really a post worthy of an update but dragged the car out and had a bit of a tidy up of the garage so there was a bit more room for the car, got the wheels out the back that have been in there since 2019 😂

Done some basic checks as well, checked the cambelt which looks good, all the lights work, just have a DRL which isn't working so need to replace that, found some oil in the boot along with some gloves which are definitely in need of a wash 😂 plus a bonus of some blue roll, also gave the engine a wipe just to remove some of the residue corrosion that's built up on the block as well.

What you planning on doing to it, David? (forgive me if you've said and I missed it)

It'll probably be in the garage at home now for another 5 years 😂 in all seriousness though I want it back on the road this year, then to enjoy it and maybe do some track days as well

Holy smokes batman we've got another update. That's mental 😂, pulled the car out to do some jobs with a humongous shout out to @Updown789 for his help once again.

PXL_20250614_104203782.MP~2.jpg

We've taken a few steps forward (and some back 😂), sorting the SRS faults and redoing the relays on both the passenger and driver side has cleared those so no more warning lights!

Also fixed the DRL bulb that wasn't working by fiddling with the plug. Here's how the car currently looks 🫣.

PXL_20250614_170627922.MP.jpg

Turns out both the horns are dead, absolutely nothing, zilch, nada, @Updown789 being the hero he is had a volt meter so we were at least able to confirm there's no issues with the wiring and it is definitely the horns that have given up.

There are probably, in fact no, there is definitely easier ways to get the horns out rather than dismantling the front end of the car but I haven't got a jack at the moment and going in the easy way is boring 😂.

All that's really needed now is a clean, new air filter (on order) and new horn, that's really it, there is a chance it'll fail an MOT on the driver's wishbone but I can at least pick one up from work for £40 so it's not something that would break the bank.

Still absolutely blows my mind I've had this 13 years next year, everyone says to scrap it but I just can't bring myself to do it 😂

This was meant to be a weekend job but I just couldn't help myself and got stuck into it this evening after work 😂 the car is no longer in pieces and is now back as it should

PXL_20250619_192543988.MP~3.jpg

Horn is now in and working and a small change at the rear you wouldn't really notice which is replacing the boot struts. Many years ago I had the idea of having one of those fangled boot poppers that opened the boot on its own, I got about 80% completed on it and never finished it so the boot would always take your head off when you opened it 🤣 replaced with some OE matching Febi struts which is way better, boot poppers are still in so it opens on the push of a button (generally the button unlatches it but you still have to press the button on the boot to open it 🤦🏻‍♂️)

Boot poppers?

Is that a couple of springs David?

Nice to see this finally coming together 👍

Yep, that's the ones, with the springs inside the actual struts themselves, I actually think I still have the springs somewhere at my mum's 😂

A bit of a boring post, so don't get excited 😂 absolutely boiling today and it's probably best to not clean a car in the blazing sun but I still have it a shot, I am actually astounded at how well it has come up after all these years, clearly the ceramic coat I had done all those moons ago has paid off.

PXL_20250713_143710576.MP.jpg

The bonnet is actually very faded at this point, it's been resprayed in the past after having a slight mishap with a deer so that will need replacing (I think it's too far gone to be worth trying to save so a replacement is easier).

No polishing here, just a quick blast with the jet wash and polar foam, this was actually before I gave it a quick buff over with some spray on wax

PXL_20250713_143416688.MP.jpg

The plan is to book it in for an MOT next week and see what happens, no more work to be done unless it's needed to pass.

Took me a little while to decide on an MOT centre that would look after me and I can happily say look after me they have. After a whopping 7 years and 6 months since it's last MOT, We're back!
