I have a 2011 Greenline Yeti SE and I was wondering is it possible to turn off the daytime safety driving lights.  If there is anyone out there that knows the answer to this question please let me know.

maybe in coding with VCDS but why would you want to turn off a safety feature?

Furthermore, IIRC all cars sold after Feb 2011 are required to have them fitted by law so your car may fail the MoT test if they're disabled.

They will not fail the UK MOT if they are disabled, because they are not part of the UK MOT.

Manufacturers had to fit them as standard to cars Type Approved after February 2011, and that is not Skoda Yeti 

or even All New Fabia 3rd Generation 2015-16.

 

There is no compulsion to have on DRL's in the UK, fitted or not.

The OP car will have type approval from before that date as it's done on model release.

My Octavia has a setting on the maxidot to turn off DRL's. If the OP doesn't have maxidot I think it can be done with one of the stalks. I'll post the method later if I remember it...

can be done in mfd - lights, drl, justa tock box i seem to recall!

Yes, I can turn them off on my FL Yeti via maxidot.

Assuming no maxidot, try the following:

 

Activate function daylight driving lights

Pull the turn signal light lever towards the steering wheel up to 3 seconds after switching on the ignition and at the same time, slide it to the top and hold it in this position for at least 3 seconds.

 

Deactivate function daylight driving lights

Pull the turn signal light lever towards the steering wheel up to 3 seconds after switching on the ignition and at the same time, slide it to the bottom and hold it in this position for at least 3 seconds.

The SE does have maxidot.

You can turn drl's on or off by checking or unchecking the running lights box in the Lights and Convenience menu.

Because they are OK in Bright Daylight and serve the purpose of supposedly showing a vehicle is moving.

(Except a vehicle can be parked with the engine running and they are still on.)

 

The thing is how bright some are, and how dull or drizzly the UK can be in the 'Daytime'  that is Poor Daylight, more like Twilight.

 

Anyway Sidelights & Dipped Beam on gives Lights to Front & Rear, and some can have Sidelights so that they are on when the car starts if left on when you stopped.

 

Obviously Sidelights are not as bright as DRL's in DAY TIME / DAY LIGHT,  but then if someone does

not see a vehicle coming towards them because they do not look, do DRL's really change that.?

 

What DRL's do sometimes stop people seeing is Cyclists and Motorcyclists and pedestrians.

People should know when they need to switch on lights and not just have 'Automatic Lights'. IMO.

Hi, my tail lights are on with the DRL's.

I've always felt that the rears should be on at the same time as the fronts.

Of course, each to their own choice/feelings.

Disabling the "stop start" I could agree with but the lights that can help you be seen

and might help with any insurance claim I just don't understand.

 

By the way if you turn the light switch to the left, off Auto,

don't they turn off anyway?

And if drivers and road users thought and used common sense. Thought about the weather and lighting and visibility of them and dazzling others.

See and be seen, front and rear.

If there were not so many that have no idea what their car does or looks like to others.

Exactly

If you want to make an 'at fault' claim during daylight hours, you want an answer to the "I didn't see him/her" statement from the perpetrator.

It's hard to sustain that argument if they are on.......it's otherwise known as 'guarding your a...'

The OP asked if it was possible to turn them off, not whether it was a good idea.

Lots of drivers will not know if their car is proceeding with DRL's on or not.

If they did know then many might know one is faulty, or think my front lights might be on, and it is dull and poor visability 

and i have nothing to the rear but 2 reflectors.

 

Skoda's will often go in for servicing or warranty work and the Technician Disables the DRL's and the driver collecting the car 

might not even notice for long enough.

Briskoda posts and threads can confirm this.

Unless it's changed, certainly on FL Yetis, coding the tail lights on with the DRLs is a dealer done thing - it cannot be done with VCDS.

Allams kindly did it for me on TIBET III FOC.

I am not a fan of auto lights - the light sensor monitors ambient light, not visibility. I'm sure that is the reason so many cars drive round in poor viz with only (front) DRLs on.

Manual control of lights works for me but - 'be safe, be seen' and that is why I have frond and 'rear' DRLs.

Or is this (yet) another example of your many sweeping statements !!

I simply refuse to believe that a Skoda dealer technician would, arbitrairily, decide to disable ANY legally required setting without discussing with the owner !

Post #1 & post #33 in this thread, but maybe these and the ones since are just an internet myth.

 

It is not a legally requirement in the UK.

Maybe check out Fabia Mk2 vRS posts.

The DRL / Side Light unit are where Fog Lights normally are and commonly owners find the switch beside the fuses has been used on cars that have the switch and the DRLs are off.

 

One reason being, when in for the DSG Service Campaign on the DQ200, you put all drains on power off when doing the software update and use an external power source.

But even during servicing, or warranty work they often get switched off.

& are not put back on and owners come on this forum asking about their faulty DRL's.

There may be a good reason, but I can't think of one.

The only thing I can think of is maybe the OP wants to save on excessive wear on the alternator :D
