When to get first service done?

Featured Replies

My wife's roomster is just over a year old now. It's the 1.2Tsi manual with the 86bhp engine. It has covered 4000 miles from new.

Could someone give advice on servicing? These 4000 miles have been done since the beginning of December 2015. Before that the car had only done 6 miles since being registered at the end of May 2015, so had sat around doing nothing for several months. Annual mileage is going to be about 8000 a year. No warning symbol has appeared on the dashboard yet.

I believe the car has been set up for flexible servicing from new. My plan is to wait until around October and then get the car in for its first service and then get it reset for fixed interval servicing rather than variable. I understand that the warranty will not be invalidated doing this? I have rung several Skoda garages in the Nottingham area and been quoted from £93 to £139 which is quite a wide range. Can anyone recommend anything cheaper than £93 in the Midlands?

Does this seem a reasonable plan? Thanks.

Flexible servicing will be 'around' 18,000 miles or two years.

I have the same car which is on flexible servicing. Bear in mind that Long Life oil is in the sump. Mine indicated its first oil change at 9200 miles and 15 months old. I had the oil changed at my local skoda dealers for £100. That was May 2015 and since then I have driven 4200 miles. By pressing the left hand button under the rev counter and keep pressing and releasing the button it scrolls to the servicing information. Mine says 120 days or 6000 miles. So around October it needs a service. Don't be alarmed as oils are better these days and engines treat oils kinder than years ago. Engines run cleaner and do not dump so much fuel or carbon in the sump these days. To check your info press the button which looks like a book (the same button you set the clock) and press and release until the spanner shows and read off the time in days and the mileage until next service.
