Jacking up the Yeti

Swapped my alloys over with a spare set fitted with Goodyear Vector 4Seasons today.

On one side of the car I'd already marked the jacking triangle points with chalk the other day...

The rear triangle marker happens is to be about the same distance from the rear wheel arch as the standard Skoda wheel brace..

Good choice of lifting kit.

Why have a spare set of wheels with Goodyear Vector 4seasons on? They're not "proper" winter tyres, but do what it says on the rim  I use mine all year and have been fine in sun, mud and snow.

btw: have you noticed the seam sealer crushed by naughty jacking in a previous life, with signs of cracking, possible metal exposure. If you want to keep the car, might be a job for the warmer months of the year to investigate?

  • They look like drains to me. Jacking point usually has a downward pointing triangle on that seam.

  • Aaaargh.   You can see the triangle mark in the lower picture, only just in shot on the right.   That drain hole is suffering from jack attack   The seam sealer has broken it's sur

  • Dear G**, how hard is it to find the jacking points! Just use your eyes and look! I really despair of peoples inability to cope with simple tasks.

Well I wanted some tyres more suitable for the occasional snow we might have but not full winter snow tyres, and there's no point disposing of my perfectly good summer tyres that have plenty of tread left.   Having acquired a 2nd hand set of alloys at a decent price it made sense to put all seasons on them. I'll swap back to the normal tyres in spring. It'll help keep my original alloys in decent condition and both sets of tyres will share the wear.

A load of stuff on this topic but here's mine to add:

The front and rear trolley jacking points on the Elegance are a little inboard from the welded seam and should be indicated by the triangles.

As you can see the underseal has obviously been broken for some time but I've poked a polymer sealant into the missing bits (only the front left so far). This particular sealant is Soudal's "Fix All", very sticky and sets quickly and somewhat rubbery even if damp. (I just happened to have the clear version). Best not to use silicone type sealants here.

I made a simple jacking block from hardwood with a scrap of aluminium on the jack side and a piece of 100mm x 38mm polypropylene chopping board on the top. The wood and plastic combination sits inboard of the seam and the clears the seam height, just fitting inside the plastic under-cladding. Adding a small piece of plastic about 15mm outboard of the block assists location.

This does work for the rear although there is a little more jacking area.

Get yourself a mirror, mine was a from bathroom medicine cabinet.
