Service bit of advice

Featured Replies

Hi ALL

My superb 190bhp is just a year old on 2nd september  with 8000 miles on the clock.I purchased when it was 4 months old.

The dealer has just phoned up to book a service as it is a year old.

i pressed the service button and it says oil change and inspection due in 10700 miles or 404 days.

i don't want to **** the warranty up any advice please.

PS i had a 2012 bmw m sport before and i do not miss it i love the Skoda i think it is a better car!

Your car is set for longlife servicing, which is 2 years or 18k miles.

Your driving frequency and trip length will impact on whether the service is required. If short and frequent trips are your norm, have her serviced, but if you spend most of your time doing long journeys on motorways etc then tell them the car is set on longlife servicing and isn't due until X date.

From your mileage, I'd say you either do short trips or infrequent longer trips. Personally, if it were my car I'd get her serviced regardless and i will be doino min at the 6500 mlies mark anyway. To save you a few bob, don't let the garage win tho by trying this out on your next service.

Find your local TPS (Trades Parts Specialist - Google it), call them up, have your chassis number to hand and ask them the cost for a full 10k servicing kit. It's the same parts your garage will use (TPS are the VWAG trade arm in UK and supply the VAG dealer network) and you will pay the trade price, not the stealer price. Oil dealer: £56, TPS = £28, Halfords own = £39.

If TPS are happy to serve you (not all are), order the parts, get a collection date (you have to collect I believe) & call your dealer to negotiate a labour only service. I know it takes all of 20 mins for a competent mechanic to complete the service, work on 30-45 mins of labour. I got a previous car serviced for £45 & had all the old bits given back to me as well. I always get them back (& check under the bonnet) after a VW Dealer twice tried to charge and not change!

Fresh oil and a filter can only be good for your engine, so it all comes down to how flush you are feeling!
