Standard 184 tdi vs VRS

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I've been mulling over getting another Octavia recently. I've a question for those more knowledgeable than me.

Looking through the brochure I couldn't help notice that at least on paper the standard 184 4x4 tdi is faster than the RS tdi 4x4. The brochure says 7,2s to 100 km/h for the standard car and 7,7s for the RS tdi 4x4. Why is there such a big difference and why in favor of the standard Octavia? Thanks.

It seems that VRS is heavier than standard Octavia.

VRS has almost the same weight as the equivalent Superb, according to info found on skoda czech site.

Regular Octavia has 1.463 kg/ VRS has 1.550 kg. 87 kg more weight for the VRS.

To be honest, I don't know where is that added weight. It would be extremely interesting if some of you know. I would be very curious why the VRS it is heavier.

If that means you're after a new one then it would appear that you're out of luck! Have a read of this thread.

vRS has a extra weight over the standard cars due to the independent rear suspension, bigger breaks and I think the 184bhp may be a different engine. It also has a different steering rack although whether that increases weight I don't know.

The 4x4 vRS is even heavier due to the 4x4 system. Although I would suspect the real world difference is far less obvious.

He means the normal 184bhp 4x4. So it is almost identical to the vrs 4x4. Both cars have IRS, same brakes, same engine.

So where does that extra weight come from?

Can the different steering rack and front bumper really add that much weight?

Ah. Stupid moment!

Maybe it's the vRS stitching and the fake exhausts...

Stiches are made with lead :p

Would it be simply that the 4x4 can put the power down better than the VRS TDI no wheelspin from the front wheels?

When I was wondering the same thing, my dealer told me that 4x4 vRS is more equipped and thus heavier.

But if standard 4x4 was equipped with same options, it weighs the same regardless what the brochure says.

Seems strange though.

I ordered 4x4 vRS even if it is heavier, maybe DTUK will help...

I compared the VRS with L&K, I mean the numbers (weight) that I posted upper. L&K is no less equiped than VRS.

I presume that the extra weight can come from stronger reinforcement on the body. Stronger, thicker sway bars, etc.

I think both cars he compared was 4x4.

My Rs230 weight 1487 included driver(75kg).

All options except smartgate. Dealer f*****d up.

THanks for the input guys. Yeah I was comparing 4x4 tdi in standard and vrs form. I was curious why there's such a big difference between them.
