fuel tank splash

Featured Replies

Not really feasible because fuel tank is already too small, and I can hear it above 3/5 I would say.

Normal on a mk2 vrs tdi. Certainly not a warranty trip!!

the f uck is normal is some people hear it, some dont.

Combining all the rattles and fuel sloshing I think I am going to empty few magazines of ak47 on my car.

I know I'm a bit late on this one, but just changed from an Octavia 2 to an Octavia 3, and yes I am much more aware of the noise of fuel splashing in the tank. In fact more aware of it than in any car I've driven.

Looks like it's not just mine though.

I guess this is why they also have the Canton upgrade option :) No I've not heard such sloshing.

Heard a sloshing in a previous car, drove me mad.

After a bit of investigation poked the drain hole in the bottom of the door and a couple of gallons ran out including the **** that was blocking the holes.

I suspect the first indication of this happening in an Octy is dry feet when you open the door?

On my 2.0d, hear it every time when filling around 35-40 ltrs. This goes away when the tank is about half full (well according to the fuel indicator).

I have octavia MY17 2.0 CR and have this problem. It's really loud when is filled up to top.

Why worry about this. As long as the fuel stays inside the tank what is wrong?

It's just another noise to add to the creaks, rattle, vibrations etc.

Ffs! Both front windows open so I pull on both front window buttons to close them both simultaneously and the passenger window always closes first. Now that really does annoy me!!!

Seriously though the octavia 3 is not known for being well insulated from noises. To hear fuel sloshing around is no suprise to me. My octavia (3) used to do this but it has stopped now because I dont listen for it.

On my MK3 FL i don't hear any sloshing or splashing, but i hear a "thump" in similar situations. It seems like they are coming from under the boot or under the back seat area. I have check the spare and the tools, as they seemed to be the usual suspects, but that is not it.

I heard this yesterday for the first time in 3 years yesterday after filling right up. A minor splosh thump. So I'm not too deaf.😎

Had the same on my octy thought it was the fuel tank ,turned out it was rear passenger door half full of water due to dirt in drain holes ,once empty its quite as a mouse now so its worth checking rear doors .

Same here. a while back I started hearing a sloshing noise and thought I'd never heard that before. Found a thread about it and culprit for some was water trapped in door. Went round mine and sure enough the nearside rear passenger door had water in it. Blocked drain holes.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check mine.

But the noise started after refuelling.

Just used a shaved down chopstick to probe the three drain holes per door. Hidden under the rubber seals. No gushing of water but just gentle dribbling from the falling rain. I note the front seals have holes in them to release the water. A worthwhile and easy check for anyone to do.

You'd know straight away if it was the door as it would slosh about inside as you opened/shut it quickly.

I'm adding my car to the list of splashing Skodas after fuelling to the top.

I think of this as relaxing sounds, like a waves from an ocean!
