This morning on the way to work this morning i  suddenly had trouble getting into 2nd gear. This has never happened before. The car has now done 93,000 miles and is a 2008 Fabia 1.4 Tdi. 80.

Any advice please?

 

Were you actually able to get the gear? Was it a persistent issue or a one off? Are all the other gears selecting ok?  Depending on what you come back to say it could be an indication of a pending clutch issue, or it may just need the gear control cable adjusting, as after 93,000 miles it may be just out of tolerance for that gear. Doubtful if it's a gearbox problem starting as they are nigh on bullet proof. 

I was nearly at work when the trouble started but I had the same problem coming home this afternoon, fortunately most of my journey is motorway so not much gear changing. I am able to get into gear after double declutching and a bit of wriggling the gear stick about. All the other gears are selecting OK.

Problem now sorted. I lost all gears coming home from work and had to be towed to a garage. They said one of the two gear linkages had frayed.
