Car won´t start - Fault with the battery?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Pardon my english, I´m not a native speaker :)

Today when I was going to take the car to work, it wont start. The same thing happened just over a year ago too, and I then bought a new battery

The car is the Octavia 1.6 MPI from 2010

When I turn on the ignition to start the car, dash is lit up as normal. No error-indicating lights - but the car wont start when I turn the key. What happens is that the all that is lit up in the car goes dim, kind of like more battery is needed, but there´s not enough of it in the battery.

There´s no indication of any Imobilizer error

I have no multimeter so I can´t check the battery or such. When I tried to lock the car it wasnt working. I tried pressing the lock button on the key (didn´t work) and I tried using the key to manually lock the dor but it wasn´t working either, it only locked the driver door, but didn´t trigger the central locking system (perhaps because of the bad battery). After awhile I was finally able to lock the car by pressing the lock button on the key.

Service was made in Sept - No errors

I used an ODB-meter before the service - No errors

Car will start if I use jumping cables from another vechile

No fault indication / battery fault lamps are lit

No other errors that can be seen

Battery is under 1 year old, and is a "high quality battery"

We run normally drive shorter distances, but this weekend we have been driving longer distances at up 150km one-way. The weather was humid today so it might come into play?

Perhaps there is something "stealing" current from the battery?

There was no lights left on as I could see-

Tips that I got so far is to check the minus-cabling from the battery to the car body, but I don´t know what exactly to look for.

What do you think can be the problem? Any other tip/advices?

Sincerely

Freddie

Ok, did the solenoid "go click" and the starter motor not turn the engine, or the starter motor turn the engine but audibly more slowly than usual? Either of those would definitely say "battery fault" to me.
