Well after much humming and hawing with my heart and head I have ordered my 171 Octavia vRS with the black pack, and managed to snag a great deal too. €15,000 trade in value up from the original €13,500 I was offered and €32,000 for the new car, basically keeping my monthly payments to what I'm currently paying.

Now it's just the long wait for January to come around.

Well done. What is it with all these Christmas/New Year presi's, not that I can complain having had mine very early. Nice to know there are some happy events on the horizon (new babies?) for some people.

Fair play, can't go wrong with the estate in blue. Photos don't do the colour proper justice. The Czech lads are gonna be very busy building imo the last of the good looking Octavia's.

Well the deal I got today was much better than what I was offered on Saturday gone, but thankfully it all worked in my favour. Really wasn't expecting a €15k as trade in considering many people on here have been unfortunately burned by having negative equity at the end of PCP deals, and I made €4,000 equity out of my car.

That's good news. The deal I got today is only slightly more than I was quoted for a manual hatch on Friday. Maybe it's closer to month end and the end of production.

Just a small update on my order. The car is currently on the boat, and should be in Dublin Port in the early hours of the Wednesday morning. According to my dealer George Corbetts, they expect it to be with them by Friday. 7 weeks from the date of order to the dealer's. Just for any Irish on here, if your trying to track your car, the vessel you need to track is the Emden.

Got a ring from George Corbetts this afternoon informing me car had been delivered after sitting for 2 days on a transporter in Dublin due to NVD messing up their end saying car had been delivered to Corbett's on the 21st.

I managed to get out to see it before they closed for the Christmas period, and it appears it got a top coat of paint before it left the factory.

Hoping to have it on the road the 4th January.

Cheers still has to be polished up, was only out of the wrapping when I took the picture. The colour change when SWMBO reminded me that I gave her choice on the colour, she loves the race blue so had to hastily call the dealer along with adding the black pack, but have to say I'm delighted with it.

Pick it up the 4th to go with the new 171 plate in Ireland. I've asked for wind deflectors to be put on the front along with mudguards, and will most likely get the spoiler painted or wrapped to match the grill and wing mirrors.

Just a word of advice...The wind deflectors really create a real racket. Mine lasted the spin from the dealers to my house and were binned afterwards.

Well wear, good to see another Irish one. Corbett's are good to deal with, did some of my servicing work when I lived in Waterford.

So got to take the new motor for a test drive this morning and check it fully over.

What can I say, once everything was up to temperature I opened it slightly, didn't give it the full beans as I want to drive it in properly for the first 1,000 miles. But God it's such a hoot to drive, handling was nice and planted, suspension isn't overly harsh going over bumps, and the sound though fake is really nice, and made me want to plant the foot down.

This is the most powerful car I've ever owned, and I'm going to have to get used to one or two things like e.g 6th gear and lower mpg compared to my 1.6TDi, but I'm so glad I made the right choice and bought it, and can see myself keeping it after the PCP is up.

SWMBO over ruled me AG. She reminded me I gave her choice on colour when I was thinking about trading my current one.

Still happy with the choice overall, so should be good to go on the 4th.

Well I picked her up today, I will put up pictures the weekend, and what a joy it is now that I've signed all the documentation and it's officially mine.

A few things I noticed while driving this afternoon/ evening. Most will not come as a shock to many here who own a RS.

The acceleration is just ludicrous to me at the moment, I'm in the **** eating grin face every time I put the foot down. Settled at cruising speed over a distance of 50 miles has returned 45mpg.

Bi-xenon lights where have you been all my life, especially with high beam I may as well be driving in daylight. I do have to train my eyes though not to keep looking at the lights turning as I turn the wheel.

I have noticed a small bit of condensation on the inside of the glass near the DRL but it usually disappears after a few minutes or so.

Android Auto is such a nice thing to have, and saved me around €700 compared to speccing the car with the Amundsen head unit just to have GPS. Bolero is standard for Irish cars.

Something I nearly missed is the small illumination lights on the interior door handles, which IMO is a nice touch.

The seats are some of the most comfortable I've sat in, just the right amount of support in all areas.

The engine to me sounds alot smoother compared to my previous 1.6TDI, doesn't really intrude to the cabin, and there's a nice little burble for a diesel around 2k rpm with the foot planted. I don't have the sound actuator on mine.

Tyres/Suspension. My car came with the Potenza S001 tyres from the factory and cruising at 70mph there was no excessive tyre roar. Suspension so far seems much better than my old car bumps are smoothed over a fair bit better, this could be due to independent rear than the torsion beam.

One unexpected thing I did get out of the RS today was a €50 refund from my insurance company.
