We all know what we love about our pride and joy but what about that little thing that just bugs you about the yeti?

The thing that bugs me is the steering wheel in my SE business edition.

2 things stand out. The ridge on the bottom half of the wheel really doesn't feel comfortable in my hands.

The other thing is the multi function steering wheel controls . I just feel that the radio/ media control should be on the right side with the other functions on the left.

Maybe it's just me !

Every thing else fine at the moment but maybe I'll find some other tiny things to niggle me!

On the left, in a RH drive car, puts the stereo controls on the side of the wheel nearest the stereo.  Seems logical to me.

I'd suggest the steering wheel controls are the right way round for right handed drivers , most people will use the telephone , voice , and various other MFD functions (right hand) more frequently than they'll use the radio controls .

 

Have you previously had a car with the steering wheel controls on the opposite sides and you just need to get used to the Yeti way round ? 

The only thing that really irks me about the Yeti are the HVAC controls - far to fiddly and awash with buttons.

Oh and I guess if I'm being picky the general lack of high grade materials on the dash and door cards. I accept it's a skoda and meant to be "value" but when you pay £30k for a high spec'd elegance or L&K then some better plastics and more soft-feel surfaces wouldn't go amiss...

Actually I do have one slight niggle , the heated front screen button is way too small and it's in an odd location . It would have been better if it was the same size and position as the traction and park assist (etc) buttons .

Wot about the 'phantom' wipe of the rear wiper when you switch on the ignition?

Said to be 'normal' but I beg to differ.

I totally agree with this. I'm on my 3rd Yeti and the sense of frustration does't get any better.   I usually ask my copilot to operate those controls.

I'd love it if those controls were on the MFSW.

I cannot read the legends on the tiny buttons on the central binnicle,

that control airflow directions. I don't like all the steering wheel paraphinalia

either, so I drive in silence and my wife answers the phone

Not much as I think it's a cracking car If pushed, I'd like a little more reach adjust from the steering wheel. The door armrest is a little too low for me too, but that's no different to the other cars I've owned. My fault for being tall I find the controls very clear and intuitive, especially compared to the Vauxhall Astra I had. I owned it for three years and I never did find out what half the buttons were supposed to do.

I love my Yeti it drives beautifully but their designer writes small

probably correct. I'm also left handed but it still feels wrong maybe because my yeti is a manual gearbox whereas my previous was automatic so my left hand is back and forward to the wheel but my right stays on the wheel. Where my thumb could nicely operate the radio control if it was on the right side lol

agreed. Central arm rest is totally useless. Your elbow would need to be 3 foot from your shoulder

Yeah , Yetis are obviously built for right handers mate   

A really great car, but things I'd like to improve:-

- Takes too long to warm up in the morning. Possibly due to the shear volume of air to heat?

- The odd rattle due to cheap brittle plastics

- Steering wheel adjustment needs to pull out an extra inch

- Arm rest not high enough, but I'm 6'4"

After four years, only three niggles that I've mentioned before.  In order of niglishness (though it's a close-run thing between the first two): 

 

1  The lack of a kerb or channel at the edges of the roof means that rain runoff goes straight into an open door or window. 

 

2  Apart from the temperature knobs, the 'climate' controls are really only suited to being adjusted with the car at a standstill.  Touchscreens are inappropriate for essential functions because they have to be looked at. 

 

3  The rather low interior mirror (for a six-footer).

How could I have forgotten about this?! Always nice to open the windo and have a roof's worth of rain deposited over your shoulder and the electric window controls. My Rapid was the same too.

I find the 1.2 110 warms up incredibly quickly though. No complaints on that one.

Minor niggles:

 

1. When the rear armrest is down there is a 'hole' to the boot - should be a cover.

 

2. Heated door mirrors need a simple timed on/off switch instead of using the same rotary knob that adjusts the mirrors.

 

3. Needs a 12V/USB outlet on dash (in dash top box?) to power SatNavs, cameras etc. Save having leads trailing over gear knob etc.

Our Yeti's epic - but the wing mirrors are too small for serious towing!

That's it, everything else is great!

Yes, I agree. This is 21st century so trailing wires are OUT!

Also why is the i-pod connector NOT either in the armrest box or the dash-top storage box? My Golf Plus (2007 model) had the connection in the armrest box.

BUT - I'm still in love. The Yeti is the first new car bought with my own money after 30+ years of company cars. If I had to buy another car tomorrow, it would be a close run thing between another Yeti or a Seat Ateca - it has more style ( to please Mrs AW ) but the rear seats don't have Yeti's flexibility.

Engine oil warm up time to 90c on the 110 bhp diesel is too looooooong = diesel knock

The bloody silly multi-functional mirror adjuster heater switch. Why o why not a seperate switch, or at least a more positive one.

 

Apart from that, it's difficult to fault.

Agree with many comments:

Timed or auto heated mirror control - like my old Mk4 Golf.

Heater/Ventilation controls are impossible to operate blindly.

A USB charge socket in the dash box would be a nice feature.

 

But really only niggles 

I don't like the 'cigarette lighter' being live all the time. Every time I get in the car and find my dashcam still plugged in I vow that I'll unplug it when I get out but I always forget!!
