How do i remove the wheels?

Featured Replies

I'm not kidding!

Finally got round to fitting the rear mudflaps as the weather wasnt too bad and its not raining but i got defeated at the first stage! They were difficult to remove about 6 months ago when i swapped front wheels to the back, but they are impossible now. I couldnt even get them to rotate on the hub which you can then try and 'unscrew' them off.

Any suggestions? I Was thinking maybe spraying something in the bolt holes in the wheel but not seriously.

Rubber mallet? :D

Chris

Give them a good hard kick at the top, then the bottom, repeat until loose. Apply some copper grease to your hub before you put them back on.

Or a FB Hammer and a block of wood. Add some anti-seize grease (CopaSlip or similar) to the mating faces to stop it happening again.

Do you want the easy way?

Get some quite hot water in a jug or watering can and trickle the hot water over the centre of the hub ....aluminium expands more than iron and they come off quite easily with a small kick to both sides

Are you having trouble getting the bolts off or is the wheel stuck on the hub?

took me buckets and buckets of hot water to get my rears off last time.

Kick the shift out of them! They'll come off when you lose your temper!

EASY you southern shandy drinking softie :-)

1 Bring car to liverpool

2 park car in full public view in broad daylight outside a police station.

3 Wheels should be removed "usually" in around 10 mins by a team of scallies

4 Fit mudflaps

5 Get lift to Halfrauds and purchase new wheels / tyres (see point 3)

6 Fit new wheels / tyres (dont forget copaslip)

7 Drive home (Not ia Manchester or you may get bulletholes in your new rims / tyres)

that should do the trick

Some interesting solutions there!

Getting the bolts off was easy its the wheel its self.

I thought i did apply some copper grease maybe its that tight its all been squeezed out. Surely to heat the wheel up your basically going to need to submerge it so it is going to need alot of water!

I'll have to try the hammer route.

with that name and that question are you sure you aint kidding?

Get a large friend to do it for you.

took me buckets and buckets of hot water to get my rears off last time.

You must all be weak fellows then if you have a hard time takin' wheels off eh? :P

on a serious note take it to quik fit and ask them to do it.

they might rip the **** a bit but theyll do it and you wont get dirty or sore.

if you wanna get dirty and maybe sore then do this

with the nuts off and car in air

sit facing wheel with legs under car grab wheel on each side and waggle it like you are checking the bearings but alot harder.

KWIK FIT lol

I seem to remember Lummox taking some sort of rubber mallet to them when they were up on the ramp

If done on a monday call into the M62 services around warrington at around 9pm to show of your new rims to the local saxo owners

I have heard that there is an easy way to do this.

Jack car up - take wheel nuts off - lower the car back down

The weight of the car will move the wheel off - not completely, I might add

jack back up - remove wheel.

Not done this myself but I heard it from someone on a forum (cant remember which one now)

...I couldnt even get them to rotate on the hub...

That'll be your handbrake working then...

No offence to residents of either city of course... ;)

not a good idea .....I like my legs fixed to the rest of me ...if it comes off of the jack ....cars are heavy

Whatever you do  don't  remove the wheel nuts (bolts!) completely, just slacken them a couple of turns. If the above method doesn't loosen the wheels try rocking the car from side to side with loose wheel bolts. You can also try driving slowly on to and off a kerb - again with slack bolts.

sorry forgot there are stupid people who would not think and do that.

forgot to say put the car would be on jack stands.
