Anyone know the max battery dimensions for Superb III?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know the max physical dimensions (WxDxH) for the battery?

Living in Norway I have replaced the stock battery in my previous cars, with the highest capacity battery (especially interested in high CCA) that can physically fit, and I just want to know which battery options I have for my new Superb III.

Thanks.

Christopher

If your car is still on order maybe you can opt for the "fleet package", which would give you larger alternator and the largest possible battery? Not sure if you have this option in the Norwegian market though...

Hello...

I have just been and looked...

The battery has a cover around it so its impossible to see the brackets but it looks very tight to get anything of a bigger dimension in there,

Here is a photo of my 150 tdi battery so you can look up the sizes of mine and compare to other bigger CCA ones..

Thank you both, I have received the car so too late to change anything on the order.

I haven't done any dimension measurements, but I found this eBay offer for a similar used battery (VAG ID, as seen in RickTT's picture, is 7PO 915 105), and there it says the measurements are 27 x 17 x 19,5 cm.

So it's an AGM battery, which I guess is normal for cars equipped with start/stop systems (which I'm going to permanently disable, by the way...). It has a 68Ah capacity, which I find a bit low (but maybe just because I'm used to a much larger battery in my former Land Rover Discovery 3...). It has (I guess) a 680A Cold Cranking Ampere, which is what I tend to focus on -this tells me how much juice it cranks out to the starter when I turn the key (or push the start/stop button...) even in cold conditions.

I did just one quick search on a Norwegian battery provider, Sønnak, and it came up with this battery for my car:

Sønnak SK700

70Ah

760A CCA

Dimensions: 27,8 x 17,5 x 19 cm

So +2Ah, and +80A CCA is probably not enough improvement to pay for a new battery when the one in my car is just 2 weeks old...

But I'm going to search more tomorrow - if anyone here has replaced their batteries with something more powerful then please chip in!

In my LR Disco 3 I had a real beast, an Odyssey 2150S with 100Ah capacity and a whopping 1150 A CCA.

My old BMW E60, i had a 900 CCA, 100ah AGM battery in that... but then it was turning over 6 cylinders and around 8 litres of cold oil, but the demand for power on the turn of the key was a lot greater than newer cars today..

I did put a post on the forum how i got a low battery warning light of my superb after leaving the doors open and also again leaving a mobile phone charging via the 12v socket connected for an hour or 2..

They are very small batteries in my opinion... cost saving maybe ?

Grenness, what engine does your car have? Diesels usually require a larger battery due to higher compression and heavier internal components...

Apparently you have to program the battery in with VCDS, telling the car the battery serial no. and specifications.

Battery in the VCDS?! That's a whoopsie... Though I can't see if and how the serial could be verified by the car's systems.

Same crap I had in my 2005 Audi A6. ECU had to be reprogrammed when battery was replaced, if not the battery would not be fully charged or something.

Same s BMW - IBS sensor controls the charge profile and rate.
