Hey Everyone!

This is my first visit to the Soft99 Section. After talking to a mate of mine from on here and various other forums, Shaun Wistow, he said he had permission from Jackie to send me some products. Now this was quite a while ago, and I have only just gotten around to trying some of these. Water Block was one of the products I got sent, so here we go. But first, I must say a massive thanks to Jackie for allowing Shaun to send them over, I really appreciate it!

So what is Water Block Dark. Here is what I lifted off Nipponshine:

"Water Block has finally arrived in Nipponshine after several request! The Water block has the best water repellency among all the other waxes/sealants, compare to Fusso coat it has a higher beading angle hence water droplets generally will look bigger. This newly developed waterproof resin is highly durable and shuts out acid rain, rain, and water from affecting the car’s body exterior. It has amazing water-repellency and its effects last for up to 10 car washes (Car wash machine in Japan). Durability is 4 months"

The instructions say:
"1. Remove any dirt on the car bodywork with car shampoo, 2. Dry your car with microfibre drying towel 3. apply thinly and wait for 3-5 mins to buff off 3. Wipe it with detailing grade microfibre (NipponShine recommends ultra fine Trizex multipurpose premium cloth), flip towel if necessary in between process "

The car was absolutely filthy, so it was washed and dried ready for the product. Now, there was no prep with this outing, but I will give it a go with prep closer to the spring as I also have Scratch Clear to try.

After opening the wax I was greeted with a light mint green coloured wax and an extremely petrol like solvent smell. Not something I would want on my hands for too long.

The supplied wax applicator is good and a quick twist in the top and the applicator was loaded. It is extremely easy to do so. So I set about application.

Now I've used wax that I thought spread a long way, but this is in another league!! I mean, one twist did half the boot, and on the Focus CC, this is a massive panel. It came off the pad on to the panel with ease and there was no sticking of the pad on the panel. It was so slick to apply. Dare I say, the easiest wax I've had the pleasure to apply. Here it is on the wing.

Now, I have no idea how the other Soft99 waxes cure, but this one goes quite chalky. So what was it like to remove. Well, after a few minutes, the residue had turned chalky, so I went about removal with a Carpro Boa.

Hell Yeah! What a gloss! It came off really easily!! I was honestly blown away, as I have a tub of Angelwax Fifth Element and that is the glossiest wax I have or have used, and I can tell you that this is not far behind it. Slightly, but not far at all! And considering the price difference, well, I'll let you make your own conclusions.

Now, I did have a slight problem. On the Bonnet, there was some streaking where you can see where it has set. A little like high spots. But with no prep, I was expecting this as I have had it before when applying wax without any prep. So here are some finished photo's. I used the same method of application around the rest of the car.

I conclusion, a wax I am really impressed with so far, and I cannot wait to see the beading! I will keep you posted on that front and for a write up on a fully prepped car! Thanks again Jackie!!

Great review there Neil with equally great results. The timing of your review is brilliant as I've just been looking at investing in the nipponshine waxes. I can feel a purchase coming on! Not convinced there would be a noticeable difference between the light n dark variations on different paint types but I'll stand corrected on that....

Well, going off water block, it would be a wise decision. Andy from Cleanyourride has a lot of them stocked and did a nice little chart covering gloss, durability and hydrophobicity. This went on like butter. Unbelievably easy, probably down to the solvent levels. This may affect any glaze underneath, but if you work it hard, it would certainly clean the surface further and aid bonding. It's a belter, and I think its £19!!! Unbelievable!

This went on like butter. Unbelievably easy, probably down to the solvent levels. This may affect any glaze underneath, but if you work it hard, it would certainly clean the surface further and aid bonding. It's a belter, and I think its £19!!! Unbelievable!

I must admit - i think a set of samples from Andy @CYR is on my list of things to purchase.

 

You have also highlighted the one constant issue we see with Nipponshine products;

if not prepped properly or sometimes curing time related - the streaking symptom appears.

 

Did you find it easy to remove in winter temps? I know in summer they can be a real pain to deal with.

That's a good point Ste. I wouldn't like to apply it on a hot panel. I would imagine it would chalk up immediately and need removing ASAP due to the high solvent levels. So in all honestly, winter probably suits it's application.

 

If I worked the wax more, again due to the high solvent level, it would perform some kind of prep in itself, which could lessen the streaking. Maybe application with a MF pad would clean and aid bonding further on unprepped surfaces. I could imagine this getting rid of tar spots on its own!

I love the Nipponshine products - superb value for money; but i do know they are fickle on application and as a result.

As a result - i tend not to use them as much as i would like to - esp if i'm time limited on a car.

And some beading!!
