No High Level Brake Light! I rate the high level brake light very "highly" as a safety feature

and would prefer that above a head up display a la fighter pilot (unless the gun sounds

come with it)

  • A shame if it does.  The Yeti made its fanbase by being different - perhaps Škoda haven't got the b@lls to do a worthy follow-up.  BUT we won't know until we see it officially, will we ?

^^^ There would be a High Level Brake light come production as Type Approval & Construction & Use has required them since they were a Requirement in the USA and then also in European Legislation.

Its just a very early pre production car. I think launch in april and with the Virtual Cockpit as an option..

I've made a slight amendment to your post!

So it's the end for instant recognition it seems.

There is a high level brake light.
It's hidden in the lighting and colour of the car but can just be made out, easily visible in the last pic of a lighter car a Seat Alteca that it's based on..

Well I don't think it's for me! Glad I got my new yeti a couple of weeks ago before the generic euro look SUV takes over.

I will reserve final judgement until I see and drive the final one but at this rate I won't be waiting for the PCP swap over call.

I wonder if the new shape will actually increase sales of the old yeti?

That really was on the cards IMO, ALL the Škoda models look very similar now, just the difference in size.

When I saw the 1st photo I liked it (even if it does look too much like an X5) however my neighbour has just taken delivery of a new Seat Alteca and that does nothing at all for me :wondering:

The original was loveable but you have to be an enthusiast to know what you're following now.

That was my thought... "oh they've linked to a picture of an X5 by mistake"

shame it has to be so much like the ateca but I suppose it was obvious it was going to be so with the same platforms being used but perhaps we may be surprised yet or yeti?

the early computer images that have been out for quite time weren't that far out after all.

I agree that the HL brake light is hidden in the shadows of the pictures.

Obviously, there's still 'camo' applied to the front and rear and I'm not totally convinced that the rear side window is a genuine one. No doubt the bonnet will be a clamshell design like the Kodiaq. It does make sense to be an Ateca clone rather than Tiguan-based - leaves room for the mini-Yeti in a year or two.

I've heard thoughts that Yeti II will appear in the UK Q4 2017 which would make sense given the present run-out stage of Yeti I and if all the hard work has been done behind the screens with the Ateca, just bolt on the new bits to the already developed platform/running gear and job done.

We will see soon enough if the Yeti replacement uses the name Yeti and if while built side by side with the SEAT Ateca it shares the same platform and wheel base and length and width or a ba's hairs difference.

Skoda CZ insiders that are actually the Media department start the spin and build up, picture leaks, sneaked pictures taken by 'friendly photographers'

and then these 'Product Managers', and other employees that gets discussions going online and on forums.

Nothing new in how VW / Skoda build up to launching vehicles really.

Accurate facts from 'The Factory' on what will be available in each different market / country would be most useful,

then Main Dealership Employees that are all told the same story and can then tell the prospective customers.

Weights, Size, Engines, Co2 / MPG even if that is EU testing fiction, Gearboxes, FWD or Part Time AWD, Colours and trims.

& Prices, Lease costs.

Yes agree, don't like it at all.

It seems the design team have given in to pressure. The Yeti loses it's unique look in favour of joining, and blending in with, the crowd.

Exactly what we thought it would look like, an Ateca with Kodiak overtones. Nothing wrong in that and I am sure it will drive nicely. However, it is now cloned to the mainstream and has lost it's distinction. Like the Ateca it won't be as space efficient as the current Yeti; the main reason I am waiting delivery of a new 1.2 DSG SE-L with several extras.

I suspect some skoda execs thought the original one sold INSPITE of its looks.

I'll take the original YETI any day

Exactly true! But it is also the reason it has such a loyal following amongst those who don't always want to be one of the herd. One major attribute of the Yeti is it's space efficiency in packaging such a large internal useable space into such compact external dimensions. Compared to most of it's direct competitors in terms of internal space it has a significantly smaller external footprint, and, personally, that has always been one of it's major attractions to me. Modern 'styling' will always win in terms of customer attraction and Skoda will inevitably follow that styling to maximise sales. Can't blame them for that but I have an admiration for the old Skoda who dared to make the Rooster and the Yeti.

I am not totally convinced that the rear side window is a genuine one. Well when u zoom in the picture it looks like the rear window is protected or no window is fitted there. I hope they do like on the kodiaq. I think it will not be good if they make it a 100% clone of the ATECA. So hope not it it will have ATECAs rear window....

As with so many cars nowadays.

Yes, I thought I was catching a Yeti (because of the distinctive rear lights) the other day, but when I got closer it was  a Subaru!

From those pix, the new Yeti "is" an Alteca with a different rear side window. I'm sure that there will be cosmetic differences & engine choices, but it does seem to be the same basic car.

'Tis just like the old BMC days, 5 brands = 1 car with 5 different trim level / engine options.
