Middle of the range tyres

Featured Replies

I bought a mk3 Mondeo that came with N6000's fitted. In the dry they seemed fine but as soon as it got wet they would spin up or slip in bends so the traction control would be cutting in all the time.

Final straw came when pulling onto a roundabout from a standing start and I just couldn't get traction, which wouldn't have been a problem but I was about to be broadsided by a bloody big truck. I would have sworn blind I'd driven into a diesel spill but it was just a cold damp road.

I swapped them out after that for Vreds Utrac Sessenta's it was like night and day they just gripped everywhere. The N6000's were still hardly worn so I gave them away on the ST Drivers forum but with a warning on how bad they were. He ended up getting rid of them well before they were worn.

Nexens may have improved since then I'm the kind of guy that once bitten, twice shy

  • Uniroyal Rainsport 3 are pretty good. Use them on all of our vehicles.

  • +1 Rainsports.  I just put these on and they are decent performers.   I don't think you'll do better for a good 18" 225/40 at that price.  About £60 landed price and then budget £12-15 for fitting and

  • You haven't actually stated what size tyre you need. Also bare in mind the cost of buying tyres online then paying local place for fitting and balancing etc.   F1 Autocentres do very good de

I had Nexen N6000's fitted to my Vrs for 3 years & never had a issue,i fitted a pair of Uniroyal Rainsports after reading all the good reviews on here & to be honest the car felt no different, maybe slightly better when driving through deep puddles/standing water but as the rainsports were such good value i wasnt bothered but if id have paid a lot more for them then id have wished id put Nexens back on.

I assumed they are standard as it's a 66 plate. I'll see him next week so I'll ask..............Deffo Nexens

Just had a quick check and the ones I have seen on the XF are either Conti Sports or Goodyear Eagle Sport.

Can't say for sure if the Prestige (base) model comes with Nexens as standard without emailing a contact within JLR, but that is a bit overkill and looks like I am trying to show you/your mate up, which I am not trying to do :)

For sure, I cannot see these being put on the top of the range ones given what I know about JLR if I am honest, but that is just my own personal opinion based on the extent of the work they do when we damage one of their cars in transit

Nexen are budget tyres and are quite frankly rubbish. Maybe Auric is confusing them with Nokians.

Got 4 new rainsport 3's a couple of weeks ago and they are fantastic however I did have vredstein ultrac vorti on the front which aren't suited to a Scottish winter, even as mild as it's been.

My last vrs had toyo t1r's and they were terrible considering how good the reviews seem to be.

I'm fussy about tyres. I only go for non budget brands.

Could not agree more with Mike! The Nexans came as a standard fit on our new car. We previously had Dunlop SPs on our previous Yeti and the Nexan are easily as good if not better! Handeling seems much better, and that was a big surprise!

So after seeing them for the first time when we took delivery and thinking "What the heck are these". I am very pleased with the outcome.........Tony

I personally rate Barums as a good mid range tyre ... Owned by continental .. I've a pair of Falkens on the front and so far not overly impressed with them as my traction control light comes on more than it did with the Rovellos they replaced.

The latest generation of Nexens (N8000 or their eco jobbies) are standard fit on Kia and Hyundai and I believe Mercedes now as well. Hankook are also a standard Mercedes fit now as well.

They have come a long way. I wouldn't but anything earlier than their latest generation though. Bit like Hankook, before the V12 Evo their road range was lacking. Now excellent reputation.

Pudq1,

If you are near Bracknell give Bracknell Tyre and Battery a call, or Martins Tyres in West End near Bisley, when I lived down there they both used to beat Blackcircle etc on price.

Had a few sets of Nexens, N6000, N1000 & I've had good experience with them. In fact my independent tyre shop always say they are well reviewed by their customers, good value for money and recommended them in the first place. Thanks to all the other members who agree.

Our new Yeti came with Nexens on them from the factory. They seem fine.

The Dunlop SP sports I currently have on the Vectra are really skatey in the wet although fine in the dry. I'll probably have sold it before they need changing but I would consider Nexens if I do still have it.

I have just looked at my tyres, they are 205/60r15, can now at least get more accurate pricing from you all!!

It's prices from the suppliers that you need, not prices from us. Sorry to be blunt.

do the same brands still apply now that I have stated my tyre size?

I've just bought 4 new Nexen N8000's off ebay for a really good price. I need a few jobs doing first then hopefully get them fitted next week plus alignment then I'll post back here how i rate them. My first vrs tdi had them fitted when i bought it and can't honestly remember that car spinning at all even after a remap.

F1 Autocentres do very good deals. EG: Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 91V 205/55VR16 4 tyres for £227.60 or £56.90 per tyre fully fitted etc. Not going to beat that and they are pretty decent tyres for day to day driving.

Thanks for recommending this website, exact same tyre but £16 a tyre cheaper!!

205/60/15V Goodyear Efficienntgrip Performance 91V is what I have currently, good tyre

Have Hancocks at moment and about to buy set for front wheels, looking at reviews the Hancock come up there with good all round performance which others although much dearer did not have similar. Been quoted £65 fitted with usual valve and balancing.. My rear ones have done 23k and will not need replacing for some time , my fronts will be done as the tracking has caused wear on edges but centres are same as backs .

Hancock? Don't you mean Hankook?
