Does anyone out there have the SmartGate option to allow downloading of driving data to a smart phone?

 

I went for this to make logging trips easier for expenses purposes but I am having connection issues with my iPhone using the Skoda Drive app. The app will connect but not reconnect automatically and does not download the trip / refuelling data.

 

I have set the car / phone as follows:-

Menu – Settings – WLAN

   WLAN – On

(Set to SmartGate_1232456 + WPA2 password reset from the VIN)

   Mobile hotspot – Off (Not sure that this has a direct impact on SmartGate but it is not something I want or need as I can use by iPhone for this)

Menu - Settings – Mobile device data transfer

   Activate data transfer for Skoda apps – Checked (This was not checked and the handbook makes no reference to this setting)

 

The Skoda Auto web site is of no use, I have tried the supplying dealer and a couple of others I have passed and so far noone appears to know how to set up SmartGate.

 

Anyone out there that can help?

I have SmartGate on my SEL Exec, and I have the same issue, I have an iPhone 6+ and have to manually connect every time i get in the car which is a pain, but I have had success with the data automatically downloading to my iMac when it works. Could be a really good App if Skoda / VW could sort these issues out, I have not persevered with trying to get a resolution to this, not sure if others have the same issue as us.

I have also same issue here, have to open app manually is meaningless. Also iPhone does not support smartgate update as Service app is now converted to MySkoda app. Drive app is also needs to be updated for iOS 10.

I had the same issue when Smart Gate was installed by the dealer as an 'aftermarket' fit.

The Smart Gate wouldn't connect when it appears as "SmartGate_1232456" - after a day or two it changed to "SmartGate_(the last seven characters of my car's VIN number)" then it connected.  You have to connect the first time using the VIN as password, then change the password when you connect the second time.  Hope I understood the issue correctly and hope this helps.

Hi, yes it is the Drive App, which is good when it works but as with all the Skoda Apps they seem to be very intermittent in operation.

Update.

 

I have managed to get the system to connect but it is not consistent, some times it works and sometimes it does not. So far I cannot find a pattern. I have also determined that SmartGate will NOT work when I connect my iPhone to the USB port to use SmartLink connectivity. This is critical as the battery drain is significant with the WIFI data transfer - 100% to 30% in under 90 minutes.

 

A total of 4 dealers have tried and failed on this. My local dealer has run diagnostics on the car with no problems found and is raising a technical issue with Skoda.
