Leaving key in with KESSY?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if leaving the key inside would still allow the car to power down properly? With my previous cars I had the habit to leave keys inside overnight - call me lazy... Now with KESSY I tend to keep it in my bag but this is awkward whenever I don't have the bag with me - sitting in the car, buckled up, just realizing that I have to go back and fetch the key. Here comes the question: would leaving the key inside kill the key's or the car's battery, or is there some kind of "sleep mode" implemented with KESSY for lazies like me?

Sorry I cannot answer your query as I have not taken delivery of my car yet but surely leaving the key in the car will leave the car unlocked and open for someone to potentially steal it? Please tell me the car is securely garaged at night :)

Have a good look at your car because it will not be with you for long leaving the key inside the cabin.

KESSY doesn't differentiate between owner and car thief.

Yup, the question applies to nights only when the car sits safely in a closed underground garage on a fenced and guarded property :)

You cannot close the car if you leave the key inside... simple as that

You can close the doors, but you cannot lock them with the keys inside, you cannot close the electric hatch / tailgate with the keys in the boot.

Like above, you cant lock the doors if you leave the key inside, it wont harm the key or car though if you did.

It looks like it does lock unless the manual is wrong. The manual for a superb 3 says:

If one of the doors is closed after the vehicle has been locked and the key with which the vehicle was locked remains in the passenger compartment, the vehicle will be automatically unlocked. After automatically unlocking, the turn signal lights will flash four times. If no door is opened within 45 seconds, the vehicle is automatically locked again.

unless the last 2 lines mean after manually unlocking and not with the key inside.

This may be true, I will try it out. From my experience the car wont lock unless you have the key on you, so you would have to, open the passenger door, lock the driver door, go around to the passenger side, put the key in that area and shut the door. It would be easier just to leave the car open with the keys in the center console if your gonna leave the key anyway.

Ok, so just to conclude this topic - leaving the key inside for an extended period (days), while the car left unlocked, will have no significant effects on neither the car's, nor the keyfob's battery.

Thanks for all your replies.

Who said that? Unless you know exactly how the Skoda KESSY works and hence the load it puts on the key/car battery, it would be impossible to predict what effects it would have on the cars or fob's battery.

Or did I miss something here..?

I have just read an article which says leaving the key in the vehicle will take current out of the battery as it continually pings the control unit in the car.

The article is here
