AUB oil consumption

Featured Replies

Hi Briskoda! I have resently bought a fabia 16v very cheap due to it' s moderate external cosmetic condition and power locks not working. I have fixed the locks, changed the shock absorbers and cleaned the throttle body (it was throwing codes). Now, the car is running like charm. Everything works ok, except the oil consumption. I know the aua/aub and bby/bbz engines have faulty designed oil piston rings and after a while they get thirsty for oil (my sister' s bby Ibiza was thirsty, too!). I know the issue is covered through a lot of threads but I have left with a query.Although the consumption isn't great (it drinks about 500-600 ml every 5000 kilometers), it has 205000 kilometers on the clock. Do you think I should consider an engine repairing/reconditioning (bore honing, bushes etc.)? Or the engine is capable for more kilometers before it gives away.  The question is that if a repair is worthy. It will eliminate the problem or after a few tens of thousand kilometers the consumption will rise again? Has VW changed the faulty rings with improved ones or they still provide the same faulty parts as a replacement? Or any other brand that is well known to be trustworthy.

Thank you in advance!

It's far more likely to be worn valve guides and stem seals at that mileage, piston rings give trouble much earlier in the engines life.

A simple test is to descend a long hill with no throttle then accelerate at the bottom and see if there is a puff of blue smoke behind you.

Thank you for the reply. I know the car from new and I know the problem exists from about 40-50k on the clock. Also, no blue smoke at all. And the crank case breather pipe is free.

Stop worrying about it then and just drive it like you stole it.

Exactly, just drive it and keep putting in oil faster than it comes out and you'll be fine

Thank you for your replies. I guess I will live with that, since the oil consumption isn't great. I'll try to occasionally rev it to see if it is going better. I'll say to my self I drive my lovely vtec!

Damn, I like that little car! Although it is based on the Polo, it looks bigger. It is so cool to drive it!
