Don't know if the braces you've mentioned will fit but all the VAG ones I've tried have not fit under the bonnet of the Octavia.

I do beleave Erik (Erik@aat) can supply a brace that does fit, have a look in Discounts and company forums.

Have just sold my last Octavia brace from stock I can't measure them up but I would suspect that the S3 might "fit" from turret to turret but not as well as one designed for the Octavia, a universal brace fits most cars but doesn't do as good a job.....

Does the Octavia vRS have a strut brace in the boot, factory fitted?

It's got some reinforcement bars which restrict the opening when the rear seats are dropped but I wouldn't call them a strut brace.

Just bringing this back up to see if anyone has succesfully fitted the Audi S3 braces, both upper and lower? its seems to be a popular and cheap mod, approx stg

Hi fivepint,

I fitted a strut brace (upper) from an S3 on to my Octavia vRS-no problem apart from having to drill into bodywork; measure twice-drill once. The strut brace from a TT will not fit, though they look similar. From memory, the TT brace has brackets fitted to it which foul against the bulkhead on the Octavia. I did ask my local Audi dealer about a lower brace but they didn't know of one and kept reminding me that 'this is an Audi dealership, try going to Skoda'. Managed to locate one from AAT in the finish (phone number is in one of the other threads somewhere). IMHO, you won't notice a huge difference in handling but turn-in seems to be sharper.

Anybody know if a strut brace would help reduce some of the torque steer?

If not anyonme know what would?

IIRC, is not torque steer due to the unequal lengths of the drive shafts?

Re the S3 lower front brace - Answer yes it fits. It takes about 10 minutes to fit. Pics here. Can't comment on improvements yet (I wish it had arrived LAST week :( ).

The mushroom nuts in the first pic go blind into the holes in the subframe. Tightening the bolts compresses the captive part of the nut and locks it in place, a bit like a cavity wall plug. The washers were the wrong size and had to be discarded.

It's a slight mystery to me why it has the foam rubber on what proved to be the underside but hey - who cares.

I have no idea what the answer to your question is but can you answer some of mine?

To contact people to you send a private message or the one above that?

How do you go about writing a review on the car you have bought?

Cheers

Andy,Ive just replied to your e mail, but i think youve pm d me too! pm seems the popular one. I'm going to do a review on mine soon, can't remember exactly but I know Colin D was encouraging it recently.I'll have a go tonight me thinks  C.J. Done!

Nick, I've heard other vRS drivers say that the lower front brace does make a little difference & for the

Jack it up or you will hurt your head, unless you have a pit or a lift of course :D

I contacted my local Audi dealer - HWM Audi in Walton-on-Thames and they refused to sell me front upper and lower strut braces for an Audi S3 as I own a Skoda!

Something to do with guaranteeing the parts, or other such cobblers, so I told them it's there loss as VAGparts.com were cheaper and more friendly anyway - so that's where I brought them from in the end - thanks Alan.

:finger: HWM, VAGparts

So much for the VAG family! :(

What a load of old tosh Andy....I've just ordered my lower struct brace from Martins in Basingstoke.....no problems.

They didn't ask what car I had.

Should get it next Tuesday as they didn't have it in stock.

I to have just ordered my lower stut brace. Will be in tomorrow morning. Another thing to add to my list of things to do in prep for tuesday

Latest toys are fitted ;)

S3 Upper & Lower strut braces. Both fit like a dream (well, with a bit of drilling for the upper one :) )

10 minutes to fit the lower one, it takes longer to jack up the car than fit the brace. Don't forget, the cap nuts will appear slack until you tighten everything up.

Upper brace needs 3 holes drilling in each side. My suggestion is put the brace in situ & mark the front holes on each side. Use 2 bolts to hold it in place, then drill straight through the holes in the brace & into the turrets using a good 6mm HSS bit as a pilot drill.

Once all the pilot holes are done, whip the brace off, drill the holes out to the correct size (8 or 10 mm, you decide....i used 10mm bolts) Clean any rough edges off and paint the holes to prevent rust.

Leave the paint to dry, then re-fit the brace, passing the bolts thru from the back of the turrets.

I used Nylon locking nuts & spring washers too, so these fellas aint coming loose ;)

Does it all make a difference?...too right it does, i wish i'd done this before the track day ;)

dont fancy the drilling bit but think ill get the lower strut brace. lets hope i can fit the damn thing!

Any pictures Geoff?

Sounds like a good job!

I'll do some pics of the upper one tomorrow.

I'm not crawling around under the car with

The Finished Article :)

Just makes me want to get one even more.

Groupbuy anyone?

I'm not volunteering here :D

I'll phone VAGparts on Tuesday if we can start the list...
