Guess What?

Featured Replies

Yep - I got in my car to go home last night, facing a low wall, about 2 foot high, flicked on my lights as it was basically pitch black... AND... I noticed one light was shining brighter off the wall, than the other.

So, I got out the car and checked them and the passenger side one (which hasn't blown before) was out. Which means.... :D - I need to get a new bulb today and change it over.

Can someone get the AA out in advance, please? :D

But seriously though - does anyone recommend a better quality bulb for the Fabia, because this is the third bulb (2 in r/h, first in l/h) that's blown and to be frank, at

Jason, when one goes, the other is sure to follow. I think its due to the extra load going through the 'on' bulb (sorry, lamp!!)

My advice, buy and replace them in pairs - you know you always have a spare then.

Read Real Skoda's FAQ doc - I believe he covers bulbs (lamps) in there somewhere.

The octavia mods FAQ "philips vision plus" bulbs are mentioned as a good value bulb at

Jason,

Jon mentioned a web site that he was buying his bulbs from - www.powerbulbs.com.

Try there.

Jason,

The Vision Plus bulbs are priced 19.50 GBP for a pair,if you purchase them from powerbulbs.com you also get a free set of blue sidelights.I was also very impressed as my order was delivered next day. Not sure of the bulb size for the Fabia but I would recommend these bulbs to you if you can get them.

Cheers

Hugh

P.S How's the camera???

Oh,

Jason,

I echo Shugz - great service from Power Bulbs and a nice, bluer kind of white light, which you'll like.. Sorry went into DAZ mode :D

Gosh 50 posts... must exit stage left to order slippery slope.

Jason,

The Octy is an H4 bulb if that helps but don't hold me liable if it doesn't fit the Fabia! lol

Cheers

Hugh

Forgot to add:

Glad you are enjoying the camera too!

Cheers

Fabia is H3, isn't it? At least, there's been a thread somewhere in the last three days that suggested this...

Fabia is H7 - I know this because I've got the busted bub in front of me. :D

EDITED: to say the full name is Philips H7 12V 55W DOT 12972. Made in Germany.

And thanks to the battery and various pipes making that side of the car quite cramped, there won't be any gear cable worries, even IF the cover falls off (which I made damn sure it won't and will when I fit the new one/s) :D

Time to get on to powerbulbs site then.

Shugz - My 128meg card arrived this morning too - I ran out of space in about 20 shots before, but now I should be able to manage about 300. Not bad for

Jason,

Yeah, I remember Sally buying your camera at first thinking that the memory was enough (I suppose we were familiar with an analogue camera that would only take around 24/36 etc depending on the film).

Then she found how easy it was to use up the memory on the camera so invested in a 128meg card too, its a really good addition and makes it easy to get at least a couple of decent photo's out of 300 attempts!!

Cheers

Hugh

Fabia bulbs are H3's for both main and fog, and h7's for low beam.

Get some Vision Plus H7s, some all weather fogs and some Philips Rallye H312V100W for the main beams :D

  • Author

Yep - I've never had a blown main beam yet, it's always the dipped beam that blows.

Tell yer what, Jon, I'll get pair of vision plus+ dipped beam bulbs ( and some free sidelights apparently. ) and then see where I go from there. A main beam upgrade could be on the cards. How much are those 100 watt Philips "rallye" bulbs then? :D

What, like the ones I have as fogs? About

Order them today and you should have them tomorrow morning.

  • Author

 - sorry? :D

So you have 100W rallye bulbs as your fog lights...? (and you don't need them anymore?)

 - I'll give them a ring later on, as they're "bulb range" link seems to go the Vogue style website. :D  -I've got their tel number at least.

Be careful with 100w upgrade mainbeams. When you go to your standard dip (55 watt?), you can't see f*** all, especially in your neck of the woods. You may also need a relay, and you may melt the plastic lenses. They get very hot!

  • Author

oooh - hello? - What's the standard wattage of the Fabia main beam bulb then... Will 100 watt really cause a major meltdown? [got me worried now]

And what's that about a relay? - Is that designed to dissipate the extra heat generated?

Order them on line and you get free sidelight (worth about

  • Author

Jon - What do you reckon to this relay question - overheating...? I shan't bother PM ing you my address if I'm running the risk of blowing something major in the headlight department.

PS: thanks for the link, Jon. But it say's they're
