Please Help - Need Help..My Yeti needs help

Featured Replies

Our 2011 Yeti 4X4 140ch was in for its 90 k service and they have done that VAG software emissions update. It now drives and sounds like a tractor. It is AWFUL. The noise from the engine is terrible. I HATE it. Before it drove like a normal car.

I guess there have been many threads about this before and I have googled a bit and generally got the idea that the update is a disaster.

So what are my options ?

Can the update be reversed ?

I want my car back. Please help.

Yours sincerely

a very happy but now very depressed original Yeti Owner.

Get in touch with reputable companies that offer remaps, you are looking at about £300 to £400 to do it.
Make sure you tell them why you are doing it, perhaps some will have problems after VAG have done the "fix"

Have they put everything together properly after the service?

Once had an airbox refitted incorrectly on service on a 140CR Passat and it sounded dreadful

Lee

Take it to a reputable remap place

i had mine warmed over by Shark last week and  it seems smoother....and they currently have 25% off. Shame I missed it.

i will not be having mine adjusted by Skoda.

Whilst I think a remap will return the car to normal, or better than normal, I really think your first port of call should be back to the dealer who did it.  They should be given a chance to sort it out.

They won't reverse the fix, but may be able to apply a different one. Also consider joining one of the VW class actions.

Other than the update what was done on the service? It shouldn't turn the car in to a tractor so I'd be inclined to suspect a **** up elsewhere. From a engine cover not fitted properly to a cam belt being a tooth out. Without knowing what's been done hard to say what the problem could be. 1St port of call is back to the garage to see what they think.

If there is an older update for your ECU, you should be able to have that flashed to restore the software.

Where are you and have you got a VCDS scan from before or after the update?

Thanks for all the advice. I won't be able to get the car back to the dealer for a few months. Nightmare. We were going to sell it so we had all the servicing and update done in preparation.

It is clear that the car is having the same problems noted by 140ch Tiguans owners. I think is the same engine. Who would buy a secondhand 140ch Yeti ? I guess most buyers would check the internet and there is enough info out there highlighting the problem. Buyers I guess will stay clear.

The engine clatters or rattles annoyingly like old diesels used to when you lightly press the throttle. When you are cruising it drives you mad. The car was silent before. Will other faults develop ?.

I am mad as hell. I did not really want to sell because it is fantastic car. But now even I would not drive it.

What a mess. They have trashed the car and made it worthless.

As above - back to the dealer and ask for courtesy car. If it's a long way to go, request that they collect yours and drop off a courtesy car - dealers WILL want to help.

In any event it shouldn't be driven until fixed as if something was done wrong at the service you may be making it worse or even risking catastrophic damage.

leaving it months before going back to the dealer is not a sensible option and may even end up with you funding the repair as unable to demonstrate it was the dealers fault.

As others have said. Return it to the dealer. Request a courtesy car and get them to sort it out. Ken is absolutely  right. Driving it now might make things worse, or even cause damage, and so I'd be on the phone to the dealership  right now.

Waiting 11 months..... No way.

I'm a bit confused, because you say you were going to sell it so had all the servicing and update done in preparation, but then go on to say you didn't really want to sell it?

But whatever the situation you need to get it back to them.

Anyway, hope you get it sorted.

The car is not used when we are away and is garaged. The car will have only done 600 km since the service by the time we get back. But, will they accept it is due to the update ? Will they care ? I live in France !! so I guess not.

There is no mechanical problem with the car methinks. It is just sounds annoyingly different. No one  else will spot it, but I can. There is also a 'very slight' hesitation before the turbo kicks in.

I just wished I had googled before saying yes to the update. I have spent the last 6 years keeping it in immaculate condition only for it to be trashed by VW.

If I keep it, I will get it remapped I guess. The MK 1 is still the best looking SUV on the market and I would be happy to keep until it dies.

This will be my last VAG car. They are not worth the hassle.

We are getting a company car and we already have two other cars. I have Saab 900 classic which I am not getting rid of and a little VW Up that is quite practical. The Yeti has become redundant. Although if I had the dosh, I would keep it.

What a pain for you! I hope you can get it sorted out. Apart from anything else you want a decent price for it.

Yeah... Keep the Saab. Lovely cars. We actually saw a Saab rally yesterday in Herrington Park near Sunderland whilst walking out dog. Some really nicely turned out cars. A credit to their  owners.

They did up a Saab on one of the car salvage programs. Really old and had a front wing missing and not used for years, left outside under a cover. However when stripped was virtually rust free due to the very high build quality.

A make of car I often considered buying but never did, and now gone.

I understand your frustration but you have to be reasonable about this. I am sure the dealer followed procedure to apply the fix, you have to give him the opportunity to sort this out. Telephone the dealer and explain your predicament so at least your complaint is registered. As far as VAG is concerned I have always found them to be quality vehicles and any problems have been resolved promptly.

It is complicated Expatman. The car is up for sale here with a company and could be sold before I have the chance to get back to the dealer. If I call the dealer to explain the problem and they record it on their files I am basically saying their is a problem with the car. I cannot sell a car in France without communicating any known problems to the buyer. I can't win and it is not my fault.

Up until this update, the car was in perfect condition and would make a great buy.

Kenfowler3966 - The Saab 900 classic is bullet proof and such a joy to drive. Most underrated car ever made. I think the Yeti and the Saab 900 have the same sort of body styling.

Sorry to hear of your real conundrum. Bet you wish you had never had the fix done!
