Service intervals between different countries

Featured Replies

I would like to get better understanding on different service intervals between countries. My car originally was bought in Norway and it was maintained in Norway. Usually service interval is on 30.000km or 2 years. This year, I've reached service interval on 90.000km and I was on vacation in Serbia so I've decided to do service in official Skoda Service/Dealership in Serbia. Of course it was cheaper to do it in Serbia, and I wanted to do it in official Skoda service/workshop because of some kind of warranty.

So, filters were changed, oil, braking pads and braking discs. Everything was good except that I saw in my record book that next service is supposed to be done in a 1 year or 15.000km. On board computer tells me the same thing now.

On my question why is not set up on two years or 30.000km because that is practice in Norway, I've been told they can't do that because of different fuel quality??? Even on my explanation that I'm crossing border and leaving Serbia in couple of days and that car will be driven in EU and Norway, they said that they are not allowed to to anything else except what is done already.

My question is:
As this was done in official Skoda Service, do I have right to visit workshop in Norway and ask them to prolong service interval and update my record book or not? What could be different if they were using original parts based on chassis number? Do I have to suspect that different parts were used than what should be used based on chassis number? I know that there could be different parts for different countries, but if it is official workshop with correct chassis number it should be done correctly.

Is this something that I have to claim from Skoda or how it works? Of course it is not a problem to change oil and oil filter in 15k, but just want to know what is correct thing to do.

Thank you in advance!

It sounds to me as if they've just placed you on the fixed mileage service interval, 12 months or 15,000 Km, rather than the variable service interval ..

Maybe they're right in saying they're not allowed to do use the variable service in Serbia but as an authorised Skoda Dealer surely they should have the means to reset your service interval to. 30,000 Km.

I believe there are different norms in different countries and in some countries there is no Variable extended servicing allowed. This may be related in part to fuel composition / in part environment and probably in part attitude of the local Skoda importer.

A lot of people, myself included believe the fixed 15k / 12 months servicing to be better for your cars health.  Someone, like a dealer or a VCDS owner "could" change you back to variable but the problem is you may not have the correct extended life oil for that purpose now.

Probably easiest to wait it out and change next service if you want to go back.

Not sure about fixed or variable set up, but before this service my service interval was 2 years or 30.000. It looks like that was fixed also just for 2 years or 30k? Of course it is better to change oil and oil filter on 10-15k, but strange thing was only why there is a difference if original parts were used. I have list of part numbers so I will try to check and see if that is something valid and if there is region difference.

Anyway, if Skoda as manufacturer says that is ok to do small service in 30k or 2 years then all workshops should follow this.

To maintain car in Norway is a bit expensive even if you are just changing all filters and oil. Service in Serbia was cheap comparable with Norway, and of course it could be even more cheaper if I didn't want to use original parts and official workshop. Therefore I just wanted to check if all official workshop should do the same.

At the same time I don't want to wait until 2 years or 30k, because my record book has different statement, so I don't want to fake anything because of the next owner (if/when I sell my car). I want to have clear record book without any issues. Maybe it will be smart to check local workshop here in Norway and see what they will say. Probably they will propose new service when it is scheduled (1 year or 15k). I guess that is not possible to claim next service for free, because of this region difference?

If you drive a diesel with dpf the oil should be same regardless of fixed or variable service as it should be only using 507.00 vag spec oil so you if that's the case you just need to ask someone with vcds to set it to back to variable.

Oil probably ok if it was a diesel with a DPF. Check invoivce.  I don't think you'll get very far with your request for a free service in your home country because you had your service carried out in another country, for economic and convenience reasons and you don't like the interval they use. Seems a bit unreasonable.
