Front top mount replacement

Featured Replies

Anyone changed these without removing the strut out of the car?

I don't think its possible unless you remove the hub and strut as one. Means you don't need to spread the hub carrier

Not possible I think. Spreading the hub isn't bad. I use a chunky flathead screwdriver and open it enough to be able to put a 5/6mm Allen key in the turn it into its points gives enough room for the strut to slide out.

Can't be done. You have to dismantle the strut to fit a new mount. Spring needs compressing.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll split the hub and get a new pinch bolt as was helping a mate out and just looking for shortcuts to do this.

As corndog said above, no need to split the hub for exact repair = don't search for problems ;-)

Take cpl.strut out, dismantle disc guards (to not bend them when strut will be on the floor) and proceed with spring compressing etc.
