Squeek/Grind coming from suspension or topmount

Featured Replies

Hello all, And thank you in advance.......

My Fabia MK1 is due for its MOT on the 15th and needs some works doing on it,

I am currently having two issues. One with the breaks which just needs new pads and another where on the left hand side front suspension unit is making a noise like a grinding squeak (To be honest it sounds like a really poor dump Valve) I'm sure its the suspension as it only happens on uneven roads or when accelerating or breaking, any task which alters the balance of the frame. A friend has suggested the top mount and another has dismissed the noise as a loose rubber seal on top of the suspension unit.

Before I go into the garage I want to have a rough idea of what I'm talking about. Any help, ideas or advice would be amazing,

Cheers George.

Hey all. I have since looked again and I believe the noise in coming in from the join on the two front Axels.  Not 100% but belive its called the cs joint. It only happens when there is an acceleration and deceleration of the car. So primarily when I change gear and go round corners.

I think you are referring to the CV  (constant velocity) joints. If these are going you hear grinding or more typically ticking noises when moving while turning on full lock.

I'd think that your only plan is to get a garage to look at it as internet guessing is not always the smart way forward if you are only wanting to kid the garage on that you know what the faults "definitely" are, that might not work out too well in the end.

Agreed. Unless you are doing work yourself and rebuilding everything, get multiple quotes and them to tell you what they think the problem is/ quote. Nothing to be gained by guessing.

We can't coach you how to sound like you know what you're talking about.

Is it possible that the dogbone mount has failed allowing the drivetrain to rock back and forth excessively every time you change gear?

Check for this by putting the car in gear, handbrake off and pushing/pulling on the front panel to move the car while you watch the engine with the bonnet up, if you see much movement and hear the sound you describe then that might confirm it.

Ah well, there's your problem then; you have 2 Citroens stuck in your front suspension!? ;)

More seriously, is this noise only present or at least more evident, when cornering? If so, then I'd be better than 90% sure it's a Constant Velocity joint needs replacing.
