rattle from rhs rear seat

Featured Replies

There is an annoying rattle/knock from the rhs rear & I'm fairly sure it's the rear seat. I've tried taking out the rear parcel shelf, no change. I've unhooked the seat, folded it down and replaced it, no change. Any ideal please. 1 yo Octavia hatchback. K

Seat belt buckle hitting something?  Loose objects in boot, sparewheel well etc. Maybe a rear seat passenger can observe and listen. If they are not deaf that is.;)

I had an annoying rattle when driving on uneven road surfaces.

I turned out that the left rear seat backrest made that stupid noise.

This is my temporary fix. You can also use white sock or textile wiring loom tape.

This looks interesting, I'll investigate thx

I've a very similar noise on mine... sounds like it's coming from the behind the rear seat area or maybe further back... maybe even the tailgate. I've tried the seat belts, the seat back itself, emptied the boot and adjusted the spacers at the sides and rear of the tailgate piece itself... no effect. I'm taking it in to a local deadlier next week regarding this I need case its something more than trivial.

10 month old Octavia hatch.

sound is not a deep knocking, and almost sounds like plastic on metal, but it's annoying enough... and started about 2 months ago.

will keep you posted.

That does look promising.... but having just checked, no. Seat back is fine on mine, but the side panel behind the seat seems to make a similar noise. Hmm.

The technician rode in the back of the car on a test drive to locate the sound, identifying the rear seat catch... with seat back down, the sound was gone. He adjusted the seat catch inside the seat back and all now seems well. Problem solved... quickly, efficiently, professionally... which was good.

Might be worth a try... drive with the seat folded down to see if the sound disappears and then get them to look at the catch in the seat; if only I'd asked what they did to the catch. Oh well.

Sounds great for you. My local dealer told me to deal with it or "put silicone lubricant on the fabric" as they thought the noise came from seats rubbing together. Depressing...

I rang the garage originally concerned that the noise might be a sign of something's more serious and as the car isn't less than a year old wanted it to be checked on warranty... which they agreed ( it might have fixed something's that would have been more expensive for them later). Fortunately they found the problem and were able to fix it... in less than 5 minutes. If your dealer won't do this... I'd find a new dealer.

I have had a rattle from the back of the car for ages, tried everything I could, rear seats, spare wheel, variable boot floor....nothing.

It is more of a 'knacking' sound metal on metal.

Closest I could find is the tailgate latch 'pin'(estate with electric opening) actually moves and makes a sound a lot like the one I'm getting when driving.

I have this issue on my MY16 estate.

It only does it with seatback up. So not boot catch or parcel shelf.

It could be seatback catch but it still did it with father-in-law sat behind me so I thought the weight would take up any movement.

Noise is really annoying.

I tried to take off fabric trim behind seatback in the boot but it is massive and you have to take loads apart.

I was wondering if a 'module' was stuck on a metal panel which had come loose.

Does the seat release in the boot work?  The cable on mine had come off in the seat and produced a rattle.

Hi Higgy. Sorry, I missed your message here. Eventually they replaced the lock/catch (whatever it is) in the seat back. It wasn't locking down on to the squared loop on the car when closed... so it rattled. Nothing safety wise, but annoying. And yes..this was on warranty.... but sound s like a common matter.

Edit... and since they changed this nearly two years ago, it's been fine.

Textile wiring tape did the trick for me.
