Came out of shops today to find that some *#@& had clipped my drivers side mirror and smashed it - really annoying, as they were bound to know they had done it. I took the car to the Skoda dealer for an estimate for repair & they want to replace the whole unit for £378. I nearly passed out, some people only pay that for a car. My insurance has a £100 voluntary excess and a £95 compulsory excess.

I've since had a good look at it and it looks like only the shell (both top and bottom parts) is broken & after seeing a YouTube video, it seems easy enough to replace those. The glass is still good and the indicator & puddle light still work. Does anyone know where I can source the parts I need, either online or local to Durham, and is it really as simple as it looks?

You can fix that easily. Whether you buy a mirror from a scrappy in the same colour and take the bits out that you need. Easy enough! 

There are a few company's online such as Find a Part, or 247 spares etc, that you can put in what part you want and wait for a call or text telling you from their vast list of scrappys whether they can get it for you.  

A similar thingg happened to me. Got a cheap donor mirror (30 quid) from ebay with the same colour cap and transplanted parts to mine. Kept the rest as spares which Ive since used on my daughters Polo (same shape mirror).

Seems like a pre fl model. I thought you could find one on eBay within 20 pounds?

Installation is quite easy. There are 2 or 3 screws(red circled below).

Thanks. I've ordered one from ebay for under £30, not quite the exact colour, but it's a 9 yr old car so it won't make too much difference to it's value. I only need the shell as everything else works fine. What I don't use, might come in useful another time.
