Anyone got an Audi A4 1.4T FSi?

Featured Replies

I'm trying to help my Dad replace his ancient (2003) 2.4 Audi A4.

On paper, the current 1.4T FSi is pretty close in terms of performance, but I'm not sure what it will be like in real world usage - particularly on hills etc...

Of course, a test drive will have to be investigated, but I was just keen to hear if anyone had one and their opinion, particularly if they'd come from a more powerful but less sophisticated engine.

We've been debating the 1.4 in the Superb thread, but I realise the engine can't necessarily be compared across marques.

Thanks in advance...

If your dad's not a hoon, I would expect it to be a rational and enjoyable choice.

The modern 'small' turbo engines are diesel like in driving behaviour and tend to hang on to high gear on motorway hills.

My Peugeot 1.2 308 (130hp) never drops out of 6th once above 55mph/1800rpm.

Particulate filters are soon to be fitted to these before long, so make up your mind perhaps.....

1.4 TSI / TFSI with 150ps can be pretty much compared across the marques seeing as they are much of a muchness.

150ps petrols, and the some TSI are ACT & some COD,

and what will replace them soon will be 1.5 TSI's because real world testing would show up what the 1.4 TFSI / TSI used in fuel and made in emissions.

They drive great and on the lighter cars are better than heavier ones,

they get to 70 mph quite quick can over take from 30 mph, and can get to 120 mph easy and go to 130 when given the time.

Every bit as capable as a 14 year old 2.4 Audi A4.

My wife has an Audi A3 with the 1.4 TSFI COD engine and it is very impressive.  There is no shortage of power plus it is very smooth and quiet.  The cylinder on demand is very good - when I'm in the driver's seat I can easily exceed 50 mpg on a decent run and the switch between 4 and 2 cylinders is imperceptible to me.  I have also test driven a SEAT Ateca (a heavier vehicle) with this engine a couple of times and at no times did I feel it was underpowered.

I currently drive a 2L diesel Superb and have decided that my next VW group car will have this engine, albeit with will be the 1.5 TSI version, as stated in an earlier post.

It sounds like there's little to worry about - thanks everyone. We're erring away from the 2.0T as that's only available as an auto and he prefers a manual, so the 1.4T will almost certainly fit the bill. Now to try and find an Audi dealer with one available to test drive...
